Today’s message for the day is gratitude.

Earlier today my Father and I went to James Knopp repair shop in Phoenix to pick up my Dad’s original 1962 Fender Jaguar. James meticulously went through every component of the guitar including installing a new nut, frets and bridge saddles. The moment my Dad laid eyes on his guitar sitting on the stand saying, “Hello my long time friend, I miss you.”, I can see the demeanor of my Dad turn from being 78 to his 17 year old self when he first received this guitar from his Uncle Raymond in Chicago, Illinois, 1962. With this guitar his teenage self would sit inside a closet with a single light on practicing hours on end to the likes of B.B. King, Chicago blues, etc. Later when he was in the Air Force up in Alaska, with this guitar, he would play organ trio jazz in the smoke filled officer’s clubs as well as be a part of a musician’s union backing up acts such as: Solomon Burke, The Staple Singers, Etta James, and Big Momma Thornton. This Jaguar has even entertained the country music dancers of a VFW club in Eagle River, AK for a few years. Had he stayed on this path of music, my Dad could’ve been a notable session guitarist along the likes of David T. Walker, Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree. But as the story goes, my Dad made his commitments to work and help raise 2 generations of my family while his beloved Jag sat in the closet laying dormant for years. It wasn’t until we started working on a family music project this past Christmas, that my Dad opened up the closet to play with his favorite guitar. However, over time, the guitar had worn frets, static noisy pots, and intonation problems in which I intervened and said, “Dad, I know of a person who can bring your baby back to life.”…..

Long story short, I am grateful to be a witness to my Father’s childlike, overjoyed smile with the reunion of his “first love”….priceless.

P.S. Thank you James ( @knoppjames ), for your time and talents in this restoration project.

Two things.

TL:DR Shop staying closed till I sort my shit out.

First, @jamabiko wrote an excellent piece on object photography for @heavyrepping last week and judging by this photo I need to go and re-read it!! It's not well lit, it's neither abstract not object-focused and it has a silly effect on it. 🤦

Second, these picks are going out today, but they've taken far too long to leave my workshop. The latter goes for a number of other picks on my bench from excellent humans like @andysolomonguitarist, @ironcatguitar, @grae.on.bass and others. Thank you all for your patience.

There are two issues here. My time and my shop model. My time can't change, but when I'm rushing to get work done and then starting again because I'm not happy with the result, something has to give.

I've done a lot of soul searching, but... I couldn't find one! 🤣🤣😈 Only kidding.

From this point forward my picks will no longer be made to order. I hate disappointing people and apologising in emails and that's what has been happening too much recently. After recent experiences I will also be using tracked insured shipping, so apologies again, but as lead time come down, shipping costs are going up.

My shop has been on "holiday mode" for a month now, and it's going to stay that way while I delete all my made-to-order products, then take a few weeks to build up stock. Thumb picks are a tricky one - I make these to order because each one is the sized to fit each thumb. I've come up with a system of blanks that can be sized, sanded and polished quickly, rather than five from scratch each time.

Hope this all makes sense. Thanks 🙌🙌
