It’s taken me a few weeks to ground myself in the energy of making my playwriting debut with TROPE. It was one of the most honest things I’ve ever written, and when the play ended, everyone stood, turned toward me, and applauded.

The only standing ovation of the night. 🥹 One of the purest expressions of love I’ve ever experienced.

For years, I’ve built a career I love around art and getting people to pay attention to other people’s stories. This was the first time I got to do it for my own. And whew.

I had friends FLY IN from California, Georgia, Maryland, and come from across all five boroughs just to love on me. I learned how willing people are to show up for you when you let them. And I learned something else: I’m not just a writer. I’m a GOOD writer. 🫶🏾

Thank you to my community for loving on me and my work, and to the incredible women who helped me birth this dream. To create alongside artists this gifted was a gift in itself. I am in awe of you ladies. @daryaashoori @chaunteeschulerirving @whitneydeal3 @maddymfuru

God has been so faithful in this season, reminding me that it’s never too late to discover a new dream or fall in love with a new version of yourself.

I think I’m falling in love with her. And with writing. ✨

Adios Summer… ☀️⛅️

Summers in the Midwest are short and sweet! We spend time outside soaking up the sun and taking in the fresh air and enjoying the good vibes. Technically it’s not the end of summer but it’s the start of the school year and when the temperatures will start to drop.
.
This summer for me was freeing! I made a commitment to myself that I was not going to resist, I was just going to go when God says go because ultimately it is leading me to my destiny. When I tell yall it has brought me so many wins and blessings. It’s like Im seeing a side of life that I’ve always known I was destined for but just didn’t know how to get there.
The path is not clear but my vision is! I can see clear as day where it is I’m going and I’m letting God guide my footsteps while getting there.
We may not always understand why things happen but I trust that this all a part of life’s plan.

I say thank you to the summer for being so good to me and taking care of me as I continue along my journey.

Im excited for what else is to come. I pray I’m thanking the fall 🍂 and the winter ❄️ just as much! 😂😂

my first 31 days (May) on the east coast ✨

1. a cute selfie I took during my visit to DC at @attorneyjaywalker’s crib
2. a very tired Iman after moving to sublet #1 in Bushwick w/ the best roommates ever @qiearanicole @_candeezy
3-4. the day after I moved in, I got accepted to attend the @youtubecreators event in NJ and had an amazing dinner w/ @knotswiss afterwards (from plane to train literally lol)
5. our elevator where many selfie videos were taken (and sent lol)
6. fun fact: I visited a park every 2-3 days and here’s one of my visits with my good sis @vitadellacassy
7. my first weekend here I went straight to see @crandleberries & her @eatcocobred pop up at @smorgasburg (that oxtail 😭😭)
8. I love Ft Greene and during a walk stumbled upon @officialspikelee’s production studio @40acresandamulefilmworks
9-11. @j.laray blessed me with orchestra seats to see @moamer @netflix. my hot date was @keee_ana
and she took me to the best pizza place ever afterwards @princestreetpizza
