Not every day on a journey means everyone has to take the same road.

After a few big riding days, the morning in Sural Bhatori started at a more relaxed pace. Most of the group chose to stay back, rest, and enjoy the peace and views of Pangi Valley, while one rider decided to keep riding.

Together with the team, he set out from Sural towards Sach Pass, following a mountain road surrounded by waterfalls, green slopes, and narrow sections in one of Himachal Pradesh’s most remote areas.

At the end of the road was Sach Pass, standing at around 4,420 metres and known as one of the most iconic routes in Himalayan motorcycle adventure.

Everyone enjoyed the day in their own way: some chose a quiet day of rest in Sural, while one rider chose another ride and a little more challenge. This is something we value in our journeys — giving each participant the opportunity to experience the road at a pace and level that suits them.

Because a great journey isn’t just about completing a route. It’s also about enjoying the way and choosing how to experience it. ❤️🏍️

Suddenly, the Himalayas turn green. 🌿🏔️

After days of riding through high, arid landscapes, we arrived in Sural, among the mountains of Pangi Valley—and discovered a completely different side of the Himalayas.

Green slopes, flowing streams, cultivated fields, and a small village surrounded by mountains. The journey continued, but the landscape had changed almost entirely.

The place’s full name is Sural Bhatori—and the name tells part of its story.

The word Bhatori is believed to derive from Bhot or Bhotia—a historical term for communities of Tibetan origin in the Himalayan region. In Pangi Valley, the high-altitude villages inhabited by these Buddhist communities became known as Bhatoris.

Sural Bhatori therefore essentially means the high-altitude Tibetan-Buddhist settlement of Sural. The name does not represent an abstract idea; it describes the identity of its inhabitants and the character of the settlement.

That’s what makes a journey like this much more than a ride through beautiful landscapes: as the road changes colour, each region reveals another layer of the culture and life among the Himalayan ranges.

Day 6 of riding in the Himalayas: Jispa to Sural 🏍️

Around 170 km and six hours of riding through constantly changing scenery—winding roads, vast mountain landscapes, and terrain that gives every section its own rhythm.

Some days, the road itself becomes the story: the combination of scenery, riding conditions, and the group moving forward together. Whenever the terrain requires extra attention, the professional team is there with the right support throughout the route.

Riding Day 6 | Jispa to Sural 🏍️

170 kilometres, approximately six hours of riding — with water crossings adding exactly the kind of adventure we came for.

Choose the line, enter at the right pace, stay in control — and make it to the other side. Sometimes independently, and sometimes with a helping hand from a fellow rider.

Another riding day in the Himalayas, another challenge behind us, ending in Sural at 3,500 metres.

What goes through your mind just before entering a water crossing?

A Himalayan journey is shaped by more than kilometres and mountain passes.

It is also built on waiting for the last rider, helping without being asked, checking the motorcycles and supporting one another as the conditions change.

The landscape sets the scene—but the people give the journey its meaning.

Three landmarks on the Padum–Jispa road:

Gonbo Rangjon is a 5,520m sacred monolith known as the “Throne of Gonbo,” associated with Mahakala in Zanskari Buddhism.

Shinku La, at about 5,050m, links Zanskar and Lahaul. Once crossed on foot, it now forms part of a strategic road, with a 4.1km all-season tunnel under construction.

Darcha Sumdo stands where mountain streams meet the Bhaga River, at a historic gateway between Himalayan valleys.

Have you visited any of these places? Tell us in the comments and share a photo!

A Day of Rain, Riding and a Group That Refuses to Stop 🇮🇳🏍️

We had planned a quiet day ahead of tomorrow’s long ride. Our group, however, had other plans—most of the riders wanted to make the most of the day and head out, even when the morning greeted us with rain 🌧️

We put on the appropriate riding gear and set out from Padum towards the Drang-Drung Glacier, accompanied by the professional photography team documenting our journey.

We rode through the rain in an organized and safe formation, maintained proper distances and made sure to stop, rest and stay hydrated. The group’s energy remained fantastic throughout the ride—exactly the spirit we love to see on Doroads journeys.

Sometimes, the days that were never part of the plan become some of the best memories. The photos will tell the rest of the story 📸

Follow our journey through the Himalayas. New dates for our upcoming adventures in India will be announced soon 🏔️

Riding Day 5 | Padum to Jispa 🇮🇳🏍️

We left Padum for a ride of approximately 150 kilometres to Jispa—about five hours on mountain roads through the heart of the Himalayas.

The route led us through immense valleys, sharp peaks, rivers and wet stretches, with the landscape and weather changing around almost every bend.

These are the days when the road itself becomes the experience: the right pace, the motorcycles, the group and the professional support team moving with us throughout the route.

We reached Jispa, at approximately 3,200 metres, after another day that captures exactly why we set out on a Himalayan motorcycle journey.

Follow our journey.

We just began.
