Me and Barbara London visiting an abandoned astronomical observatory near Yerevan. She was the first person ever to have bought a work of mine, in 1984, for the MoMA in New York, which has had an enormous influence on my life. For more than 4 decades she has been the curator for video- and media-art there. In that way she has experienced and helped shape art history from the front row, from popart till today; from the first analog experiments of Nam June Paik till contemporary high-tech digital installations. A few days ago I met her for the first time, of all places in Yerevan, Armenia, and had the enormous pleasure, hanging around with her and some other artists, to discover what a wonderful person she is.

Featured artist @koen.theys Koen Theys (°1963, Brussels, Belgium) investigates how Western visual traditions and cultural icons can be deconstructed and reread in relation to contemporary social tensions. In The Wall of Man, this research takes the form of twelve ceramic faces, complemented by a separately presented face, together forming a fragile “wall” of human types. Theys uses techniques such as doubling, shifting, and distortion to gradually undermine the recognizability of the face, rendering identity both legible and unstable. The work reflects on how group formation and collective identity function, and how the individual relates to or is subjected to them. By isolating one face from the group each day during the exhibition, the logic of the mass is literally dismantled, shifting attention toward the fragility of individual representation within a collective structure. Clay Matters runs until 29 August. Image Koen Theys Wall of Man, 2017 Glazed ceramic 130 x 167 x 15 cm #koentheys #claymatters #keteleer #keteleergallery

Our first Meet & Greet of 2026 took us to Liège ✨ Organized by our honorary president, Colette Dubois, we visited the exhibition « Nous tournoyons dans la nuit, et nous voilà consumés par le feu ». We were warmly welcomed at the Treasury of Liège Cathedral by Laurent Jacob and Xavier Vani, directors of the exhibition, which for the first time brings the cathedral’s exceptional religious heritage into dialogue with contemporary art. Spanning eleven exhibition spaces, the show presents over 130 works by 78 Belgian and international artists. Moving between heritage and creation, it reflects on the meaning of the sacred today, through visual resonances, symbolic tensions, and moments of quiet intensity, transforming this historic site into a powerful space for reflection and sensation. Our heartfelt thanks to @espace.251.nord for their generosity and for such an inspiring guided tour of the show, which is still running until 29 March 2026. Published on @kortfilm.be, this essay accompanies tomorrow evening’s 20/20 Vision screening at argos, sharpening the lens through which the films are seen and foregrounding desertion and disobedience as gestures that resist war’s recurring logic. 20/20 VISION: WAR IS NOT OVER Wednesday 17 December 18:00 bar & tickets 18:30 screenings Pricing (incl. soup): €10 (recommended) / €5 (reduced) / €15 (support) Only 20 seats available!
