2 years ago we came home from Tulum to a new piece of property. We only visited a few times and basically pretended it didn’t exist while we tried to sell our house.

We finally broke ground in the late spring of 2025 and will be moving in later this month. This is our 3rd custom build since 2017.

Now that all of the design decisions have been made it’s time to focus on furnishing the place. I sold most of our decor and furniture to my followers when we moved.

Not having to store furniture was a plus, but the cost to replace it means I will be hopping on the “slow decorating” trend.

My word of the year was “create”

And create I did.

We started the year off with an impromptu trip to the island in January. This is where we first talked about how we could take more trips like this if I was self employed. We took another trip back to the island in February and talked about it again.

March 1st it was time to say goodbye to kinder, the dog I got when I was 18 and at nearly 32 she had been through absolutely every adult experience I had in life.

In April I was at an all time low and decided it was time to quit my job of 10 years. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, as someone who values pleasing others I didn’t want to disappoint my boss.

In May I started full time on my business and brought on 3 new clients for June. We also broke ground at our house which meant I finally had to start making some design decisions.

We spent the summer golfing and working on the house. We took a week long trip to Halifax with our best friends and golfed at some of the nicest courses in Canada. I also took at dip in the Atlantic which was on my bucket list.

At the end of August we brought home Navy. The first few months were challenging and I felt a lot of guilt for “replacing” Kinder. Finally in December we made it out of the hardest puppy stage and I could feel the love start to grow for our new addition.

Most importantly, I tried my best to be present and invest in relationships with those who show up and do the same with me. I made new friends and grew closer with others. It was an eye opener who showed up when I was at my lowest point and I cherish those people more than anyone ever. I can’t wait to celebrate new milestones with my people in 2026.

I don’t have a word for this year, but I feel like things can only continue up from here.

Seeing it all come together is the best part!

Cabinets have been installed, our very talented tile guy has been working non-stop, lights have been ordered and deliveries have begun to arrive.

Our countertops have been templated and our exterior doors should be completed soon. Dan is starting to work our beams and t&g ceiling in the main living area.

I guess it is time to start thinking about furniture, but might wait until we move in next month to get a good feel of the living space. A partially tiled pantry in a new custom home build with protege bronze cabinets by Benjamin Moore and square zellige tile

Figured I should share some building updates before the entire house is finished. Oops.
All of the hardwood floor has been installed, the entire home is painted, cabinets have arrived and install has begun. Dan installed the applied moulding in our bedrooms, office and main bath.
Tile starts today!

We coloured drenched our entire house (walls, ceiling & future trim) with Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee and I’m in love.

We will be adding the same yellow cedar to our ceiling in the main living area and our exterior doors our being manufactured out of the same wood. We took a trip last January to the island to pick it all up, it was our last road trip with Kinder ∞ and she got to dip her toes in the ocean for the first and last time.

A real life dream come true. I learned so much during the process and am so happy to see this through to the finish line. There were so many people worked on this and brought the vision to life and I couldn’t be more grateful.

The biggest thank you goes to Trevor (@paragonproperties) and Rebecca (@rebeccahiland) for all the Sunday hangouts, planning, sketching, designing, dreaming, and building — we really did it.

9 years, 1 reno, 3 builds… and here we are spending our day off painting fascia boards.

If house projects are your idea of quality time too, you’re in the right place.

We colour matched our fascia to our metal siding with the help of @homehardware and spent Sunday morning rolling on 2 coats to the back and sides of each piece.
