What Sonia Ate | 27 July & 4 September 2024 BEOM BEOM // Eeny meeny miny moe, Catch a tiger by the toe... The only tiger I'm interested in catching is Beom Beom, or Tiger Tiger in Korean, a vibrant eatery in Darling Square showcasing modern 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘬 (Korean soul food) and a larger-than-life mural of the eponymous 𝘣𝘦𝘰𝘮 by artist Tommii Lim. The team behind Beom Beom is the Kolture Group, which also brought us Kobo, Tokki, and Kogi, so I expected the food to be both delicious and creative. My first meal there met my expectations and more - besides moreish share plates, there were zippy cocktails and quirky retro decor - so much so I was back within 6 weeks. It's a great spot for a fun night out with friends or a laidback date (speaking from personal experience lol) / Swipe ☜: Mayak gimbap (fishcake, pickled daikon, soy mustard sauce) ▪︎ Hwayo 25 Yuzu Highball (yuzu soda, lemon), Aloe Jin (Roku gin, aloe vera, cucumber) ▪︎ 🐅 ▪︎ Rosé tteokbokki (fishcake, baby octopus, rosé sauce - yes, that's a scoop of vanilla icecream!) ▪︎ Soy garlic Beom KFC (Korean fried chicken) ▪︎ Truffle potato pancake (Grana Padano, mozzarella, truffle aioli) ▪︎ No bad seats in the house ▪︎ Seoul Sour (Haku vodka, butterfly pea syrup, plum extract, plum bitters), Beom Beom Boom (Hwayo 25, Aperol, Cointreau, passionfruit) ▪︎ Bulgogi tteokbokki (Chef's Surprise Dish) ▪︎ Got the mayak gimbap both visits, so you know it's a must-order ▪︎ 🐯🐦‍⬛ ▪︎ Calamari sundae (pork belly & squid fried rice stuffing, anchovy doenjang butter) ▪︎ Jjapaguri (wagyu skirt steak, spicy blackbean sauce) ▪︎ Miss Korea (Haku vodka, lychee liqueur, rosé Moscato, cranberry) ▪︎ 🐸🪩🍶🔒✨️ #whatsoniaate #beombeom #kolture #darlingsquare #koreancuisine #hansik #koreansoulfood #mayakgimbap #gimbap #cocktailgram #cocktails #rosétteokbokki #tteokbokki #soygarlic #koreanfriedchicken #truffle #potatopancake #bulgogi #calamari #soondae #jjapaguri #wagyu #instafood #foodstagram #sydneyfood #sydneylocal #tiger #mural #jinrofrog

📍GAMA @gamasotbap Level 6/188 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000 🍚 I visited while picking up a gift for my friend’s baby’s first birthday. This place is perfect for anyone wanting to experience what a Korean home-cooked meal is like. 🥢 🇰🇷 I had the abalone pot rice meal. Gama is a traditional Korean diner that specialises in “sotbab” (솥밥), Korean pot rice served on a tray (반상). The rice is cooked in the metal pot it’s served in, topped with various toppings and accompanied by an assortment of banchan. The pot ensures even heat distribution and retains nutrients, resulting in delicious and glutinous rice. The best part I liked? The scorched rice (nurungji), enjoyed with warm broth as a dessert. ❤️‍🔥Perfect for a winter meal!
