“Assigned female at birth” is definitely the preferred term rather than born female. Both are a LOT better than something like saying “used to be a girl”. Cause nah. I was read by the world as that, but that was never me.

But in a time when we are actively losing rights at an alarming rate, I’m never going to be one to lose my mind when someone doesn’t use the perfect words. We have MUCH bigger fish to fry. If you’re on our team, you’re on our team.

Being visibly trans and pre-top surgery at the gym surrounded by huge frat bros was intimidating. But I felt so strongly that I had a right to be there. Just like everyone else. Many people stared cause most Nebraskans weren’t familiar with gender nonconforming people. Showing up every day was empowering. I was showing myself that I’m worth showing up for, and I’m not going to let what anyone else says get in the way of self care and doing something I love. And don’t even get me started on the daily stressor using the men’s locker room used to be.

No matter what someone looks like, everyone has the right to show up and better their mind, body & spirit through exercise. People working on themselves should be encouraged no matter what their fitness journey looks like. I know a lot of my followers don’t feel comfortable at the gym. And I want you to know, I’ve been there, I see you, and any place I’m in I will always take the opportunities I see to ensure it’s a place all people are welcomed to go. Because we deserve access to these places just like everyone else.
