In 2025, may you find a deeper connection with community, friends, family, adventure, and beautiful skies.

Be safe, have fun and try something new is my New Year's resolution. "Be safe" means to be mindful, calculated, and impeccable in word, thought, and action. "Have fun" means to let go of control, laugh, seek happiness, and be healthy enough to do it all. "Try something new" is to step outside (of my comfort zone), say "yes" more often, experience something for the first time every day.

None of this will come without great risk, challenge, and setbacks. Fear, dread, and disappointment are just a few of the feelings that I expect to experience in my commitment to growth in 2025. None of this is new to me. 2024 was full of difficult conversations with friends and family members; I saw stars whilst running a half-marathon; my private practice slowed drastically as I shifted my focus from kids to young adults and I began my own EMDR therapy to process some past traumas.

It's all for the best. I promise.

Cheers to challenge = change = growth. None of which is possible without the others.

Having fun helping good friends run a haunted house for those brave enough to trick-or-treat in Tiburon. 🎃

Every year, I fear that I will be alone on my birthday. It sounds and seems so childish, but I believe that most people share that fear.

I am so grateful that even when I was alone, I rarely felt lonely. This year, I wore momma's most oft worn t-shirt to remember the hours of labor she endured to deliver my 9 lb. 9 oz. body. I huffed up the hill behind my home with a human who wears a heart of gold. I invited friendly faces into my new home. I put delicious food in my belly with those who have earned my love and admiration. I tried to stave off loneliness and fear. I worked hard to appreciate the moments when I was alone.

My mental health is hard to manage. Anxiety, depression, grief, and something that looks like ADHD corrupt clarity every moment of every day. Sobriety has created moments of stillness that ground me at times and disturb me at others.

I can't stop reflecting about what I portray here as it relates to what I feel. Today, it feels important to share the moments that felt worth capturing with a camera and sling some ink at those a photo cannot describe. They are the same. The smile is a welcome distraction from the effort needed to feel meaning, purpose, and productive in life.

As a therapist/friend/neighbor/family member/etc., I want to talk about this more...with you and anyone else you think would benefit.

With so much love.

Let's goooooo 2023!

2022 was packed with change. It was my first year without mima, I bought a home, received a bunch of therapy, gave a bunch of therapy, went completely stone cold sober, learned (and continue learning) how to be a dog-ma, changed up my views on relationships and communication, and rang in the new year with my dog, man, and a Mexican band playing at a pretty badass shebang.

In 2023, I will set no resolutions. I will not set out to lose weight, or build my business, or settle down into the American Dream. For some reason, I feel too old or wise to believe that that works for me. I will only strive to continue treating those that I love with the respect they deserve--sometimes smothering them with love, affection, and attention and sometimes giving them space and time.

I plan to move through this next year a bit like the man who embraces pigeons, but also like the girl who needs space and often gets lost in it and most certainly the person who takes unnecessary risks just to test the limit.

Cheers to another wild ride around the sun.🌞

¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!

Today, the deceased are commemorated for the beautiful and complex lives that they lived. Mima, this day's for you. I miss and love you so much.

¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!

I didn't want to make this post, but it feels too raw not to share. I have struggled for a long time...maybe all my life...with pretty significant bouts of anxiety and depression.

On Saturday night, I did what I've done only a few times before--hosted a small, (Covid) safe gathering of friends and family for a housewarming/Día de los Muertos thingy. Unlike some (likely most of my friends and family members) a week, sometimes two go by where I do not speak to another soul aside from the families and individuals in my private practice. Life can feel very heavy when your business feels like all you have.

This past Thursday, a man whom I had only met a half-dozen times committed suicide. After my ride with my Echeloner peeps today, I rode to his bike shop to pay my respects. What I thought would be a brief stop (to drop off flowers) turned into hours of listening to stories, seeing the unstoppable tears of men who had forgotten how to cry and dissociated faces in total shock and disbelief. The only respite from the grief was found by touring his museum of a bike shop, and non-stop brainstorming about what could have and can be done to prevent others from falling into the trap of such heaviness that committing suicide feels like the only option.

The rub is that this man often worked twelve-hour days. Because he is no longer with us, I cannot pretend to assume that he was truly happy and content with this lifestyle. I heard that he lived with his mother and has two daughters. He had friends...lots of friends. From what I heard today, they all loved him deeply...and yet, it was not enough.

Though I have not been suicidal, I could feel and have felt the heaviness that took Tony Tom's life. The details of his passing are irrelevant. He was a human being. A good human. Maybe he needed to hear, feel, and believe that. Maybe he needed a housewarming "thingy" and/or a bike ride. I say this all the time, but I am grateful to the humans in my life who remind me that I'm a good human. I don't quite know where I'd be without you.

Be in peace, TT.
