I’ve spent years cooking in and running fine-dining restaurants. Now I run a tiny sandwich shop.

Same chef. Same experience. Different canvas.

Why is reinterpretation celebrated in fine dining but offensive between two slices of bread?

And if you believe only people born into a cuisine have the right to cook or reinterpret it, I hope you’re never making pasta again unless you’re Italian.

Because surely the rules apply to everyone, right? Right!?

food is political : entry 1

You know what's frustrating? People around me, people who I've studied with, worked with, looked up to, people whose work I have engaged with academically and in my everyday life are shining examples of SPINELESSNESS.

The food and beverage industry in this country, albeit a few exceptions (looking at you with love @bluetokaicoffee @konadelhi @akus_theburgerco etc) have no conscience to have an opinion, express solidarity or simply be sensitive enough to not regale in their luxurious events fueled by pretentious cocktails, nonsensical food and not one person with courage. Sigh. At a time when the country is fighting for its very अस्तित्व

I was called a "JNU type" all through my time in IHM Mumbai for caring. I just assumed that stressed access to good quality education and pressing socio-economic realities are what kept this ecosystem delusional. I've grown up and know more now.

Low collective emotional quotient is the answer in my opinion, leading to the more easily recognisable and almost trademark ~lack of empathy~ Because why else, would an "industry" (iykyk) that's very really run by workers in horrible conditions with deplorable wages (extremely relevant for workers' rights) doesn't give a rat's ass about, well anything except profits, optics and ass-licking? Chickens who're fans of KFC fr fr.

This plate of seekh kebab is from last night's dinner in Shaheen Bagh. A community that doesn't get to choose when, what and where is political because everything is.

They say size matters. I took that personally. 🤏

Episode 1 of Does Size Matter? A sandwich shop in GK-2, Delhi, serving some seriously good sandwiches and a whole lot of personality.

Small shop. Big sandwich energy. 🥪

Delhi has no shortage of sandwiches. Good sandwiches? That’s a different conversation.
Because putting a mountain of mayonnaise between two slices of bread doesn’t automatically make it gourmet. And charging ₹600 for it certainly doesn’t help. 👀
We’ve eaten our way through Delhi’s cafés, delis and sandwich counters, and these are some of the vegetarian sandwiches we’d genuinely go back for.
Not a ranking. Just our personal favourites, and exactly what we’d order. 👇
The takeaway?
Delhi’s sandwich scene is far more interesting than your average cheese-and-corn toastie. From Japanese fruit sandos to loaded café sandwiches and nostalgic classics, there’s something for practically every craving.

And yes, a good sandwich deserves more respect than being called a light snack.

📌 SAVE this list for your next café-hopping day in Delhi.

💬 Now comes the important part: Which sandwich in Delhi is so good that you’d actually go back just for it?

We’re always looking for the next one worth trying.

LOOOOOOK what we did! And how!

3 months of planning.
5 NO SLEEP days.
3 × 24-hour services.
4 F&B verticals.
My team of 60 people.
9 WhatsApp groups.
Countless curveballs.

And somehow… we pulled the whole damn thing off.

Casa Bacardi, Dehradun. ♥️

Two days of absolute MADNESS with Bacardi and WMS, away from our home ground, running in-room dining through the day and night, breakfast for 350 people each morning, 500 + crew & artist meals daily, and a little piece of Kona transported all the way from GK2 to the hills of Dehradun.

Months of spreadsheets, menus, tastings, hiring, logistics, equipment, quantities, 3 reccees and contingency plans for contingency plans went into getting us there.

And then you get on ground and realise not everything will go as per your plan or your plan B or plan C.

So you pivot. And then you pivot some more.

You sleep wherever you find ten minutes, drink an unreasonable amount of coffee, forget what day it is and keep feeding people.

This was one of the most physically and mentally demanding events I’ve taken on. And one of the most satisfying.

Because somewhere in the madness, 60 people became one team. People jumped sections, picked up for each other and solved problems.

And seeing KONA sitting in the middle of Casa Bacardi? 🤌🏾🥹

There are events you finish and think, “That went well.”

And then there are the ones you walk away from thinking:

Fuck. We actually did that.

To every single person who was part of these five mad days, thank you. ♥️

Casa Bacardi 2026. What a ride.

A special shout out to @iam_eshan , @trishala.j and @sharanbehl_ @akshatkumar from @wmsonline and the entire crew at @casabacardiin ♥️

Delhi, we have a sandwich situation. 🥪🔥
Forget those sad, two-slice, barely-filled sandwiches. These are loaded, messy, over-the-top and absolutely not first-date friendly. 😮‍💨

The kind that need extra napkins, both hands and zero shame.

Tag the friend who would absolutely finish yours too. 👇

Here’s Part 2 of our Delhi favourites — 20 places that have stayed in our heads long after the first visit, and ones we’d genuinely consider going back to.

From Himalayan comfort food and old-school Chinese to Neapolitan pizzas, dosas, sandwiches, dim sums, chocolate and good old North Indian food — there really isn’t one cuisine tying this list together.

The only criterion was simple: did we enjoy it enough to want it again?

🍕 EVOO
🥟 Yeti – The Himalayan Kitchen
🥢 Yum Yum Cha
🥡 Zen
🍜 Kylin Experience
🍫 Manam Chocolate
🥢 689 by QLA
🍜 Ping’s Café Orient
🍝 Cicchetti Italiano
🥪 KONA Shop
🍕 Café Wink
🥞 Benne
🥪 Pete’s Deli
🥟 Nao
🍜 NODO
🥪 Savage Sandwich Shop
🥐 Ladurée
🍛 Moti Mahal Restaurant, Daryaganj
🍕 Leo’s Artisan Pizza
🍝 Spezia Bistro

And no, this isn’t a ranking. Some are fancy, some are casual, some are classics and some are relatively newer discoveries — they just scratch very different food cravings for us.

How many have you already tried? And which Delhi place absolutely HAS to make Part 3? 👇
