On the holidays, our team comes prepared for a capacity crowd both in the beach and on the water. Kelby, Nixie and the other K9 lifeguards are prepared to handle whatever the day throws at them! These working dogs have #theheartofthebeast in them!

What’s on my Harness? Ama Dablam is mainly fixed lines so all you need is safety, rappelling and ascension systems for the mountain. Super stoked!!!

Kelby & Nixie demonstrating exactly how a K9 needs to behave while flying in a helicopter. This is critical safety concern for all involved. The K9’s must be able to calmly fly without causing a distraction or disruption to the crew. Happy Friyay!
** Do not try this at home. These K9’s are highly trained professional working dogs. They are equipped with specialized safety equipment. If this flight was a doors open long duration flight they would also be wearing ear protection.**

As an overview of yesterday. We challenged the 5 regional teams on land mapping, elevated victim recovery (think hunter in tree stand hanging off their tether), traversing the patient through rugged terrain, and finally OVER Purgatory Chasm to their exit point.

Our teams out performed our expectation with the approximate time of entry to exit between 3 and 4 hours respectively.

Teams began the exercise by receiving a last known position in the form of coordinates (Lat/Long & what 3 words).

Making their way through the woods they found a 2nd “clue” that gave them coordinates for the approximate location of their victim.

Arriving to find a suspended “hunter/ climber” they were tasked with setting up a 2 rope system to retrieve the patient who was conscious and alert with lower extremity injuries. Patient was lowered to a stokes and secured.

Then came the traverse with the rescue package, personnel and gear to the Chasm. Where teams found that the only “logical” extrication was over the Chasm. With depths up to 70 ft and roughly 50ft wide, teams had to come up with a safe and efficient way to cross. Several high lines, offsets, separate lower and haul systems were built to move the rescue package to the exit point.

For us, having all 5 teams tackling the Chasm at the same time was AWESOME! Everyone working in sync, on separate ideas, trial and errors, pivoting when things needed a new direction was truly a spectacle to see.

For EVERYONE involved to make this happen we give you our deepest gratitude for the continued support! We will be tagging and sharing stories as we rap up the week’s activities. Thank you to all our participants! Stay Safe!!

For your pleasure on working dog Wednesday we bring you…Kelby! K9 Kelby executes a perfect helocast from 15 feet off the water to rescue a swimmer in distress. Once she hits the water she immediately locates the rescue swimmer in the helicopter who then joins her In the water. She remains calm and rejoins with the rescue swimmer and then proceeds to the victim. She never swims away from the helicopter or rescue swimmer until the rescue swimmer gives her the command.
**please do not try this at home. Kelby is a highly trained professional water rescue dog, equipped with specialized safety equipment and training to minimize the risk of injury. The K9’s are assisted with their jump for safety and timing requirements**
