Today is World PR Day, and I’ve been reflecting on what this profession has meant to me.

When I started Kora & Hive @koraandhivecomms , I don’t think I fully understood what I was signing up for. I knew I loved helping people tell their stories. What I didn’t know was how much of this work would be about seeing people, really seeing them, before a single word gets written.

So much of what I do isn’t press releases or media lists. It’s sitting with a founder who has built something remarkable but can’t quite find the words for it yet. It’s holding their vision carefully until it becomes a story the world can understand.

This year’s theme is “The Golden Age of Strategic PR,” and honestly, now that we’re in a season of AI-generated everything, noise, and spin, the thing people are hungry for is trust. And trust is built through honest, intentional communication, which is exactly what this profession, at its best, has always been about.

I’m grateful to do this work. Grateful for my team, for clients who let us into their worlds, and for every practitioner doing this with integrity.

Happy World PR Day to us. 🥂

If you’ve read up till this point, tell me what you’ve always thought PR professionals do in the comments section. I promise I won’t judge you 😁

#EPR25 was a powerful reminder of the impact and importance of public relations especially when executed with the right strategy.

For a long time, I’ve approached PR through a strategic lens, and it was affirming to hear from seasoned professionals that this approach, though still new to many, is the future of our industry.

Industry events like these are always a great opportunity to reconnect with peers, mentors, and role models. But even more valuable are the new connections we build each time we gather.

One key takeaway for me from this year’s #ExperiencingPR conference is the importance of intentionally mentoring the next generation of PR professionals. I’ve often held back, waiting to be called upon or to “be ready.” But a recurring theme throughout the event was: “No one will shift ground to make space for you. You have to make bold choices and step into the roles where you are called to serve.”

So while I continue to build my experience in the industry, I’m committing to sharing what I’ve learned over the past seven years in communications and PR. If it helps someone navigate their first, second, or third year in this field, then it’s a step in the right direction.
