The other day, I saw a young lady ask, “Why y’all pushing 30 and still going to Homecoming?”

Clearly, she doesn’t understand the HBCU experience, especially at the illustrious North Carolina Central University.

Homecoming is the biggest and Blackest family reunion! It’s about returning to where it all began, reconnecting with familiar faces, celebrating how far we’ve come, and being reminded that we have a community rooting for us.

And YES, it’s about the fried fish, the fly looks, the old flames, the tequila, and the HENNESSSSSY FUHUCCCK! 😂

But beyond the festivities, there’s something rejuvenating about being surrounded by so much Black beauty, brilliance, history, and love. The hugs, the laughter, the genuine catch ups, and hearing somebody say, “I’m so damn proud of you.”

THAT is the HBCU spirit. It restores you and sends you back into the world ready to keep building the life you imagined.

A BIG SHOUTOUT TO THE CLASS OF 2016! Celebrating 10 years since we graduated made this Homecoming even more special. Seeing everybody thriving, growing, and becoming is a blessing. I LOVE Y’ALL! 💛

No matter where life takes us, the Eagle is no common, ordinary barnyard fowl! 🦅

Dear Ol’ NCCU, forever home. 💛
