@hero_down_foundation Triple Crown Throwdown Finale is done and dusted! And what an amazing series this is for New England! 🙌🏽

I finished 17th of 85 in CO and 42nd overall (out of 195). These three major matches combined were incredible to shoot, but today was my most INCONSISTENT performance at a big match to-date. Across all ten stages, I placed anywhere between 6th and 58th in CO. I had an abysmal time trying to make the steal fall down, and an FTSA nearly pushed me to quit shooting completely and sell my guns.

I’ve got so much more work to do to turn my potential into consistent performances across 10-12 stages. I learned a lot through this series about what’s required to get to the “next level.” What got me to “A Class shooting capability” will not get me to where I still want to go, and now I know it.

Thank you, @johnny_hero_down_ and his Ops crew - @trushot_media_group included - at the foundation for making this series THE set of majors I look forward to every year. Thanks to the @cheshirecountyactionpistol and @kylenarkum for building yet another phenomenal match. Thanks to the boyz on the @mapoliceshootingteam for helping to drive the Commonwealth’s firearms programming in a practical direction; I’m immensely proud to be on the team.

And finally, a HUGE congrats to @kylenarkum, @mattg_48, and @luther_h for taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall in the series. I’ve learned a ton from these guys, and I’m proud to call them friends. 👊🏽

Time to get ready for next year’s series. Let’s go.😈

@luther_h is a TOP GM-level human, well on his way to being an actual GM. We had a blast training together yesterday. We explored some stuff, learned some stuff, were happy sometimes but mostly very mad and hated everything. 🤣

Most importantly, we both pushed ourselves outside our comfort zones, as indicated by my egregiously long trigger freeze on this run! It’s what’s supposed to happen when you’re trying to keep up with this guy! 🥶

A little rain never hurt anybody! 🥴

This was probably my favorite drill from @joel.park_ this weekend. Couple close mini a-daps, medium-distance c-zone and a medium distance mini a-dap. Looks kinda easy at first glance, but it’s not.

The tendency is to index the gun to the steel, get a “flash of color” on steel, and let it rip; “casino shooting,” as Joel calls it. You can get away with it once, but there’s no consistency in that engagement strategy.

You HAVE to see a floating dot toward the middle of each piece of steel before you let it rip. My steel shooting is a literal coin toss lately… so, I needed this!

Thank you, @velox_training_group and @joel.park_ for three days of great training and a hell of a lot of shooting! 🙌🏽

32 guys went home with a lot of homework and a good understanding of what’s required to get it done. This is the way. 👊🏽

In our “LE Intro to Competition and Performance” class, we run a mock stage three times, with three slight changes to the stage each time, to introduce cops to the idea of “stage planning” and execution.

When you start shooting matches, keep your stage planning as simple as possible. Pick a route you think is most efficient, memorize it, and hammer alphas. 🤙🏽

The class “KEY LESSONS” video is on the YouTube channel. Check it out!

Moving and shooting is about a balance between three key pillars: stability, aggression, and preparation (of the gun).

You should be exploring how aggressive you can be with your movement while keeping the gun stable enough to put the rounds where you want to. Also, the sooner the gun is indexed on the target, the sooner you’ll be able to start collecting the information you need to start shooting. Keep in mind, MORE of one pillar might mean LESS of another…

Forward, rearward, lateral movement and everything in between… thinking about getting the most you can out of each pillar will help you figure out what you’re really capable of. 👊🏽

The “Progressive Return” drill - a @hkimshooting special - is how we like to test the DURABILITY of our grip. Pay attention to possible grip pressure changes (and what that looks like on the target) and be ready to admit when your eyes latch onto the red dot mid-shot string (and what THAT looks like on the target).

You know what to do… peep the class on the YouTube channel! Link’s in the bio. 📺
