Reminiscing on a crazy couple of weeks I just had. It started with my bachelor party: piling 10 guys in a van and heading to Mammoth Lakes. Hiking, riding the bike park, relaxing in hot springs and by the lakes…we did what you could call a “Mammoth Sampler”. There’s so much that area has to offer. After dropping all of the guys off and turning in the van, I repacked and picked up my sisters. Less than 24 hours later I was back on the road heading back to Lone Pine for the next adventure: Mount Whitney. I’ve done it once before but this time was different. I was guiding my sisters up the mountain for their summit attempt. We acclimated for a couple of days and then went for the big summit push in one day. Everyone made it up and down safely and in good spirits. There was only one way to celebrate the feat: a Whitney Portal pancake. To cap the busy two weeks off, a couple days later I turned 30 with a full heart and a tired body. These are the stories I will remember for a lifetime and I’m grateful for the people who helped make it all happen.

This week, DDIA welcomed the first 2026 cohort of Latinos, Media, and Democracy Program (LMDP) participants to DC for two days of in-person trainings. The gathering marked the kick-off of our 8-week hybrid training program! This group of 20 Latino journalists, content creators, and civil society leaders are on the frontlines of listening to, informing, and engaging with Latino communities across the United States (and in parts of Latin America!). Over the next 8 weeks, they’ll learn how to responsibly harness AI in their work, how to use prebunking, open-source research, and verification techniques to counter online harms, and they’ll receive the latest Latino media consumption and voting trends data (from our friends at @equisresearch). Keep an eye on this group - they are paving the way for a new future of the Internet!! The 2026 participants: @arigabriella, @ariannyrocks, @belen.quellet, @carliana.co, @celiaemontoya, @eduardohayek, @jackie.gar.cia, @kraussss, @jorgerios21, Vanessa Flores, @jcfrias, J.B. Branch, @mariamolina_dc, @lindalopezstone, @__roxanaromero, @ysaleftyouonread, @otalora_sergio, @tono.latino, @fabianna.rincon, @cristobal.comunidad The 2024 alumni (back for more!): Michelle Zacarias, @rafaelolavarria Our collaborators: @grahambrookie, @estebanpdl, @dfrlab Our team: @bragaroberta, @ctardaguila, @danielanaranjo.r, @annasabriaa

Latino journalism, democracy, and good vibes 🎥 I kicked off the week feeling proud of the hyperlocal journalism we’re doing in Arizona, and grateful for the opportunity that the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas gave us to be part of a space focused on learning, understanding AI, and diving into our audience’s habits and media consumption—plus a beautiful gathering in Washington, DC, and real camaraderie. An intense trip, full of learning and meaningful connections with amazing people—journalists, content creators, and community leaders. A truly wonderful experience, packed with reflection, new tools, and the drive to give our best to the community. 🎥 Video coming soon. #AriannyRocks #Pendientemigente #Latinomediaanddemicracyprogram #Lmdp2026

A project so close to my heart, my first time helping produce a documentary film series, and this week we closed the chapter with a film screening 🎥🎤♥️🎞️It truly took a village. The room was filled with aspiring student filmmakers and community, which made it all the more meaningful. Our team poured so much love and intention into these stories, and I had the opportunity to lead photography for our photo gallery that was displayed during the screening. Brave Like Us is about our families, the courage it took to leave everything behind, and the love, joy, and resilience they carry. Our stories matter, and it’s on us to tell them and uplift our joy.
