We were sad to hear the loss of a true legend.

CAMEO VTS NR WCB wasn’t just a writer, he was a Canadian freight pioneer whose work set the bar high for style and funk.

For those who know, you know. But if this is an introduction: CAMEO was the kind of writer whose phenomenal style inspired many, including those of us who started painting in the ‘90s.

His name was as flamboyant and fitting as his work, perfectly worthy of the trains he blessed. Hearing that he chose it with his brother Kaput, straight out of the dictionary, makes me wonder if he even knew just how naturally the smooth connections between letters would be. He had this rare ability to blend one letter into two sometimes three without losing a thing—crispy, legible, and undeniably fresh.

Over the years, his style took on different looks: a sort of chunky sign style, a futuristic robotic vibe. All interesting, yet all unmistakably CAMEO.

So it hits hard to hear of his passing. Coming up in the ‘90s, certain names just ring in your head. CAMEO was one of those names. Unfortunately, our paths never crossed, but seeing so many writers pay tribute with their own pieces says everything about the mark he left.

It’s honestly hard to picture a Canadian graffiti scene without him and for some a world.

Our deepest condolences go out to KAPUT and to all his friends and family. May the CAMEO spirit live on. Through every piece, every freight and through all the good times.
