It wasn't until Willie Anderson asked me to speak at his Mom's Love Football Conference that I finally acknowledged that I hadn't truly processed my mother's passing! In 2018, as the football season began, I was fully focused on the team. Within a short period, I lost my brother, then my mother, and later my job. Everything fell apart, but I can still hear her urging me to get out of that basement and do God's work. The stereotype says men don't show emotion, but I cried profusely last Saturday afternoon, and I am thankful for that release. Remember to show your mothers love this Mother's Day, and if you need to cry, go ahead, because you will have to confront your feelings at some point! Thank you Willie, Mike, Ronnie, Floyd, and countless others for helping me through this! I'm grateful 🙏🏾#mom-lovingsons#sons#first-coach#cheerleader#mom#unmatchedmotherlylove❤️

I AM NOT OK! This has hit me really hard. My mind is flooded with countless thoughts! Why, God! I was always taught not to question God's plans or timing, but this is painful. Children are not supposed to pass away before their parents! Mr. Burnett, your dear wife and daughter, my heart aches for you all and you are in my thoughts and prayers. To everyone who spent even a minute with Medrick, you knew what kind of exceptional young man he was. A precious part of life taken too soon! I (we) love you Medrick Burnett Jr. and family! #RIH#RIP#YoungKing

A football coaches worst nightmare… a player that is seriously injured while playing the game he loves. Me and Coach Kenny Delgado recruited Medrick to Grambling State University out of California last year and we proudly put him in the hands of another great coach, Cedric Thorton at AAMU  and although I am no longer his coach, I will always support him and he and his family have all of my prayers. He is strong and has overcome much but he needs more. I am asking for your help for him and his family.

Medrick Burnett Jr., AKA "Meddy," who plays college football for Alabama AAMU #51, was playing in the Magic City game on October 26, 2024, and was severely injured after a head-on-head collision during the game.

His 20th birthday was October 27th and one of the worst birthdays for us because he was in ICU and not doing well. He had several brain bleeds and swelling of the brain. He had to have a tube to drain to relieve the pressure, and after 2 days of severe pressure, we had to opt for a craniotomy, which was the last resort to help try to save his life.

He needs and is going to need a lot of care, and all of his family live out of state from where he is located, and they also need to be able to have housing to be there to support and help him in this journey. We do not know what lies ahead yet, but we need all the prayers, support, resources, and donations to help him and his family keep giving him a fighting chance to survive.
