UNDERWATER DEMONS (or devils, I guess)😈🔱

Surface Side Dolphin Kick was a consistent staple in nearly every @sundevilswimdive practice I watched. They did them for longer smooth reps and short all-out bursts.

Some of the guys credited this drill specifically (along with “otter kick”) as to why their underwaters improved so much at ASU.

I’ve started sprinkling surface side dolphin into a bunch of my practices, too. I’m already a huge fan of kick in different body positions, so this fits right into the normal rotation.

Here’s the full set from the video:
2 RDS (rd1: fins, rd2: without fins)
2x12.5 surface side FAST @ :45
1x100 FR catchup constant kick @ 1:30
2x15 surface side FAST @ :45
1x100 FR catchup constant kick @ 1:30
2x25 surface side FAST @ :45

WALL PRESS KICKS😤➡️

In a shallow pool we don’t get to use vertical kick as much as we’d like, so these became an alternative - and honestly worked a totally different pattern🔄

Vertical kicking exposes alignment issues because athletes will start to fall forward or back. With Wall Press Kicks, the challenge was constant downward pressure. Legs naturally want to rise so they had to drive the board into the wall.

There was a lot of failure here. That’s ok! It gave athletes instant feedback and required them to adjust body position and kick tempo in real time.

👉Tip1️⃣: use a small or less-buoyant board - the ‘big’ boards popped right up.
👉Tip2️⃣: breaststrokers may have to switch to egg-beater or ‘piston kick’.

credit @peteverhoef for coming up with these!
