Women are birthed with the expectation of having knowledge and motherhood innately in them while men are birthed with the expectation of being soldier & conquerer. Knowledge was deemed a feminine trait while simultaneously shaming it out of women. It was witchcraft. It was lilith. It was demonic. When men became “knowledgeable” it was divine. God. Mens only expectation becomes allowing us to live in the utopia they build around our suffering while we show gratitude for being allowed to be pedestalized. Held to a standard with ever changing rules. You will tear yourself apart to avoid being punished. Unworthy. Unchosen. Unprotected. You will listen and obey.
When men do good it’s applauded as an incredible feet. When women do good it’s a reflection of what’s already been expected.

Meet Nevaeh.

Born in 1994 and working as a photographer in Boston since 2015, with a degree in Psychology from Lesley University and a plan to one day bring the two together through art therapy.

Her work is about the versatility of the Black community, and Black femmes in particular, capturing their personalities, culture, stories and experiences. Bold colour theory meets the intimacy of portraiture, and the result is work that reaches for the essence of the person in front of the lens.

She is building a bridge within the community, so people can look at these images and find kinship, and see their own stories looking back.
