No, he didn’t wear 2s while playing for UNC: After sharing images of the upcoming UNC 2 Lows, it’s become apparent that there is A LOT of confusion about the shoe. Some not understanding how MJ could have worn 2s while playing with UNC in college, therefore not believing they’re actually 2s he’s wearing in the photos (this one baffles me). Others thinking MJ only wore a high version that you see on the left, which appeared in the @jumpman23 “Alumni” pack in 2017. However, MJ actually played in two alumni games. The second being the game featured on the right, which took place on June 28, 1987, where he wore a special PE low top AJ 2, which is what will be releasing later this year. One of the issues with the pack that released in 2017 is that they put the wrong date on the heel of the 2s that came with it. They put the date of the second game in 1987 where he wore the lows, which caused (and continues to cause) some confusion. Either way, hopefully this reaches enough people that it helps eliminate any misunderstanding there’s been for people and everyone can realize just how special it is that they are actually releasing the UNC 2 Low, exactly like the ones he wore in that 1987 Alumni game!! The 1986/1987 UNC Alumni Games: When I posted the screenshot of MJ wearing the white/Carolina blue AJ II Lows on the weekend, it seemed to cause a lot of confusion. From people not understanding how MJ wore 2s while playing for UNC, to people thinking they were the same 2s that came in the pack with the Converse Fastbreak to people flat out telling me I photoshopped the pics 🤦‍♂️ Either way, there two different UNC Alumni games that MJ played in. One was on September 6th 1986, where he wore a pair of the then yet to be released Air Jordan II “Chicago” high that were customized to to feature a UNC blue heal. The second was a year later on June 28, 1987, where MJ wore a white/UNC blue AJ II Low PE. You can read a great article about this written by @krvanch. Just Google it and you should be able to find it pretty easily. So, if you didn’t already, now you know! Happy #2sDay!!
