Directing an ensemble is quite the undertaking, but with such a fun bunch it was above all a joy. Missing everyone even if I keep seeing their faces on my screen all the time, as the edit progresses.

ACTOR: Krystle Ferdinand

Shades of Character. JULY 2023

Every role asks you to share something with us, to share something real and in doing so you refine your talent, refine your craft, and let go of gimmicks and tricks to instead expose and reveal. THAT is the only new thing. That’s true vulnerability. Daring to go into new territory.

Every self tape is a chance to do just that. Bravo Krystle. We are so proud of our #SelfTape Masterclass students whose talent and guts are expanding before our very eyes.

NEXT ROUND opening September 2023. Email us at theactorsworkstudio@gmail.com to reserve your spot and learn to craft compelling characters and exciting entertainment.

I’m excited to share that I’ve recently assumed the roles of Co-Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Vice Chair of the Apprentice Caucus at ACTRA Toronto. Beyond the titles, this marks a personal milestone as I find my voice again in these positions of leadership. Committed to fostering inclusivity and mentorship, I’m eager to continue contributing to positive change and growth within our industry.

Change is the canvas upon which our resilience paints the masterpiece of our evolution.

I cannot thank the amazing and supportive people in the union that I have met along the way for this incredible opportunity and honour.

Excited for the transformative (and tough) journey ahead!

That’s a wrap on TIFF 2022✨ Thank you so much to @oyamediagroup for sending me! So many incredible experiences and inspiring films (still have a few on my list to see). Best moment was VIOLA DAVIS! Also shout out to @lifetastessour and @abigail_whitney for being my TIFF partners in crime and getting us into amazing parties and cheering each other’s successes on. Also special thanks to @josephcovello for being the best partner and collaborator as we pitched our film. See everyone next year!

Screening for one night only - Friday 18 June 2021.
----------

Earlier this year I wrote & directed a little project as part of @actradiversityto initiative A Different Lens, where 7 writers were brought in to craft demo reel scenes for 14 talented BIPOC performers. A Different Lens is an initiative spearheaded by former ACTRA Diversity & Inclusion Committee co-chairs @yeslisamichelle and @samoragloria

I had the great pleasure of crafting, DENIAL, a dark psychological piece for @alejandroampudia7 and @krystleferdinand, both of whom did stellar, layered work of bringing the project to life.

Our project was produced by Jenn Paul, and was elevated by a fantastic creative team including DOP Roger Singh, editor Thom Smalley, and sound designer @fpelipel. Post was completed by @rollingpicturesca

Denial premiers next Friday, 18th June 2021, on @reelworld's YouTube channel, as part of a compilation of scenes created through A Different Lens. The event includes a panel discussion with all participating performers, so don't miss your chance to see the great work done by the brilliant creatives who came together to make A Different Lens a reality.

“Brandon [Tobia] and the entire team were so helpful throughout the entire post process, and it meant so much to our performers to know they had the backing of a skilled post-production house to give them such a polished and professional end product. Our hope is that these demo reel scenes help elevate the careers of these talented, diverse performers to the next level, and are so grateful for the support of Rolling Pictures in this endeavor.”
– Jenn Paul, Industry Relations Specialist for Anti-Black Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at ACTRA Toronto, and Producer of “A Different Lens”

“A Different Lens” is ACTRA Toronto’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee’s latest initiative and it’s been a LONG time coming!! We are so proud of this one because as working actors we KNOW the importance of a strong demo reel.
✨✨✨
We are so thankful to all of the beautiful members who applied for the inaugural round. It’s truly touching to see how engaged and committed you are to building careers & more representation in our resilient industry.
💫💫💫
We aim for this to be a legacy project so if you didn’t get into this round (which is more limited than we envisioned due to COVID) please apply for the upcoming rounds. We watched all of (the many!) application videos & they all resonated! We hear you. It made the selection process difficult. That said, we’re pleased to introduce the 14 performers who have been invited to create a demo reel scene.
🔥 Congratulations! 🔥
