One of our very first projects for SCP Academy was to design and create our Cadets’ uniforms. This was a deeply collaborative process between ourselves and costume designer Danielle Volkar @daniellevolkar We started out with correctional officer uniforms as the base. Danielle’s idea was to swap collars of the shirts to provide a more formal, higher contrast look. Once that was done, we embroidered our Academy logo onto one shoulder and did a costume test with our actors. This proved tricky, as it was deep during the first Pandemic summer. Instead of having everyone show up and mingle in person, we took pictures of our actors in front of a white backdrop using a long lens so Danielle could eyeball the adjustments needed to fit each cadet. We also used this opportunity to take the cadets’ ID pictures, which let us create their access badges. Lastly we added the badges, names to the uniforms, and one final SCP patch on the other shoulder. At the time, the next step was recording the original video journals. Happily, a year and a half later, we were covering them in blood like we had always intended. SCP Academt PART 002 starts crowdfunding next month. Are you ready? 👀 #scpfoundation #scpacademy #indiefilm #costumedesign
