NUSA NÚÑEZ DE LA TORRE
Im Stein, 2021

Who are we when no one is watching us? With her video installation "Im Stein", Nusa Núñez de La Torre addresses questions of intimacy across private and public spheres. Her temporary insights into a private living space aims to prove that when the act of flaunting becomes a habit, the everyday becomes art. Through a series of peepholes that she installed outside of her own bedroom window, the artist offers an insight into the rooms of a former Zürich Milieu House, opening up to the public sight her private home, her place for intimacy, emotions and everyday life.

📍On view at @kunstklinik, Nietengasse 17, 8004 Zürich

Nusa Núñez de La Torre - With roots in Switzerland, Spain and Peru, she, great-granddaughter of a sailor, carries the world within her - and follows her inner lighthouse. Her home is where her art is. In the literal sense, because Nusa does not live, she lives in her works of art. Between dreamscapes in glass cubes, Barbies on wooden cows, flying fish and throbbing hearts under glaring neon lights. This can go so far that she transplants 200 kilos of sand and an old rowboat into her own bathroom and turns her most private rooms into a walk-in installation.

Opening walk Thursday, 17.06.21, from 7pm @LangstrassenKultur, Langstrasse 113a - 8004 Zürich and at nine nearby locations

SCREENSAVER is the temporary appearance of images and objects in the windows, shop fronts, offices and bars that have been idle for a long time. The exhibition takes place across seven neighboring streets, in an open-air route: Langstrasse, Nietengasse, Schöneggstrasse, Rolandstrasse, Sihlhallenstrasse, Zwinglistrasse and Dienerstrasse. There is no map, because this is not a treasure hunt: the city is a continuous interface.

This exhibition is realized with the support of @prohelvetia and @stadtzh

Where is the threshold between inside and outside?

Not all artists have stayed behind the glass. Some works will occupy alleys and facades, transforming the cityscape into a single lookout to observe, and reflect on, the other side.

Too much screen time?

We asked eleven artists to create something to distract us from the screens of phones and laptops, to be displayed behind another thin pane of glass, that of the windows of the stores, studios, bars and offices in the Langstrasse heart of Zurich waiting to reopen.

The artists invited to Screensaver are asked to explore, stage, perform or narrate the fluidity and intersectionality of the neighbourhood.
They will work between the visible and the non-visible, aiming for a visual experience to be found unexpectedly beyond the curtain of established objective perception.

The name SCREENSAVER suggests the visual occupation of a space with an unexpected image. Abandoning the rooms typically dedicated to art, SCREENSAVER occupies surfaces of different kinds in Kreis 4 and thus enables an art walk under the open sky.

SCREENSAVER is a collective project. It encourages local connections without mapping them. It does not aim to change, but to exchange.
It does not actively try to add something, nor to reach anyone in particular. Behind glass it flaunts, without interfering.
