POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@lashortsfest this year with two films I am SO proud of 🫶🏼🩷✨📽️🩶

@catalina_thefilm and @into_the_book.film being two vastly different genres but bookending the screening, both stories of family, survival, sacrifice and love told through incredible fiction writing. An honour to be a part of both filmmaking teams 🙏🏼🤍

And hearing @briantaylormix 5.1 mix in the cinema for the first time was extra extra special 🙌🏼

More news for both, coming soon ….

“Catalina”

“In the near future, where human caregivers have been replaced by AI, a desperate robot mechanic tries to save his dying mother by transferring her consciousness into an illegal robot named Catalina.”

An emotionally powerful film that recently screened at LA Shorts International Film Festival (@lashortsfest) in Hollywood!

@ohhohhsheila was transformed into an older version of herself using old age stretch and stipple techniques, and then converted into a robotic humanoid version of her younger self using airbrush.

Sponsored by @caringacrossgen , this film is dedicated to all of the caregivers, teachers, doctors, and beyond that are directly shaping our society and most importantly, our future. This one is for you Mom, the most amazing caregiver I know ♥️

@appletv put on a whole production for Widow’s Bay at @hwdforever that was truly unforgettable!

Okay, Iet’s talk about this show… I did not expect to like Widow’s Bay as much as I did. It’s weird, dark, funny, creepy, and somehow completely addictive. It has that perfect balance where you’re genuinely invested in what’s happening, but you’re also laughing at how ridiculous everything is.

The characters are what really hooked me. There’s something so entertaining about watching this little island full of people who KNOW something is wrong, while everyone else is basically like, “Relax, everything is fine.”

And @thematthewrhys is so good in this. The whole show has this quirky, slightly off-kilter energy that I really love. It’s not your typical horror show, and I think that’s what makes it work. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it still manages to create some genuinely creepy moments.

Basically: if you like mystery, horror, dark comedy, eccentric characters, and a little “what the hell is going on?”, watch it.

I’m officially ready to go back to Widow’s Bay… preferably with a very fast boat home.

A robot couldn’t help her. But a caregiver would have known exactly what to do.

In this scene from “Catalina,” Daniel comes home to find his mother in the middle of a dementia episode — and their AI caregiver, Catalina, is powerless to help.

When our director @martinrusselljohnson screened this clip at the @domesticworkers National Assembly, the caregivers in the room immediately recognized the moment and knew what care mom needed.

That’s exactly the conversation this film exists to start.

Care isn’t a protocol. It’s a human instinct that can’t be coded, automated, or replaced. Care deserves a human touch.

💬 Have you ever been in a moment where you knew exactly what a loved one needed, but the system around you didn’t? Tell us in the comments.

Catalina makes its world premiere at the Oscar-qualifying @lashortsfest on Friday, August 7 at 3:15 PM — Program 41 at Regal NoHo West.

🎟️ Tickets at the link in bio.
