He has a plan, and I have a purpose

This phrase was written on a yellow notecard during youth group four years ago, and it still holds great truth today.

The last six months have been filled with uncertainty. Through it all, I trusted. Trusted that the Lord would use my purpose in his plan no matter what.

A dream that became a goal is now reality - I could not be more honored. I don’t know God’s plan for this year, but I do know that every moment will be filled with purpose.

TYJ!!

I still remember the first steps I took into Lucas Oil Stadium. Stomach in knots, heart racing, butterflies fluttering. I was about to walk onto the biggest stage FFA offers, waiting to hear the results of the Horse Evaluation CDE. My team was top four, I was top ten, and yet, I wasn’t satisfied. My nerves weren’t from being on stage before thousands, but from the crushing weight of expectations I’d placed on myself. Weight no 15 year old should bear.

I walked off the stage holding our 4th-place plaque and my green 5th in the nation ribbon. For someone new to this world, it was extraordinary, yet still, I felt empty. I told myself I could’ve studied more, practiced harder, done better. That feeling never left. Every pin, every ribbon, every new title stitched in gold, it all left me emptier. I carried that weight through friendships, losses, and disappointments, with no way to set it down.

Until one day, during a chapter visit, I knelt beside a student who shared their story with raw courage. That brief exchange changed everything. I realized the weight I carried kept me from true service.

Service isn’t achievement. It’s love in action.

Reflecting on my parents’ support, advisors who gave everything for their students, friends found in wash racks and airports, I discovered love had wrapped around me from the start.

Each time I zipped my jacket, I made a quiet promise to that love. On November 1st, I zipped it one last time, feeling each tooth of the corduroy and finding peace in knowing I had given myself fully to the calling God placed on me.

My name wasn’t called that afternoon, but I still am. As this journey ends, I am filled. Not by achievement, but with calling, faith, and love. And though I am satisfied, I know I’m not finished with the work He has set before me!
