This is 57. Not exactly how I imagined stepping into a new year, but here we are.

And for the first time in about 20 years, I get to spend my birthday in the Philippines. 🇵🇭 Normally, this is when #vickytions season begins🥲

A week ago, I started chemotherapy.

It’s a strange thing to say out loud. And even stranger to realize that this is now part of my life.

But I’m learning that a new year doesn’t have to begin the way you planned for it to still be worth celebrating.

So here I am. Taking it one day at a time, surrounded by people I love, and trying to find the ordinary in all of this.

There will be more to share. The diagnosis, the surgery, the recovery, the things I’m still figuring out.

But for now, this is my first chemo. My first birthday in this new chapter.

And apparently, still making a thing of my birthday. 🎂 Just… a very “dry” one this year. 🥹

And I’m still here.
