A whole fall wine + dessert pairing for $8.78/person? 👀🍂

I grabbed Costco’s 4lb pumpkin cheesecake ($21.99) and paired it with Ken Wright Cellars 2024 Chardonnay from Willamette Valley ($21.89).

The cheesecake is rich, creamy, and loaded with fall spice, so I wanted a wine with enough acidity to keep things from getting heavy. This Chardonnay does exactly that, with bright acidity, apple fruit, and a little baking spice that makes the pumpkin flavors really pop.

And because the bottle is a standard 750 mL, that’s about five glasses of wine + five VERY generous slices of cheesecake for $43.88 total, or $8.78 per person.

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of wine pairing I love: good enough to feel special, affordable enough to actually do.

Save this for your next fall dinner, girls’ night, Friendsgiving, or “I bought a cheesecake and now I need to justify it” situation. 😂

#ad Cascadia Getaways hosted our stay at Summers Hill, and day two was all about exploring Oregon wine country! 🍷

We woke up to the most gorgeous sunrise, had a slow breakfast at the house, and then headed out for a full day of wine tasting around the Willamette Valley.

🍷 Résonance Wines @resonancewines
Our first stop was Résonance, where we tasted wine surrounded by some seriously gorgeous wine country views. I also loved learning that Résonance was the first winery outside of Burgundy for Maison Louis Jadot, bringing together French winemaking history and Oregon-grown wine.

🥪 The Horse Radish @thehorseradish
We stopped for lunch at The Horse Radish in downtown Carlton, which is basically made for a wine-tasting day since it’s right in the middle of Oregon wine country. It’s been a Carlton staple since 2007 and was the perfect little break between tastings.

👻 Ghost Hill Cellars @ghosthillcellars
This was probably our most intriguing stop. We learned that the property gets its name from a local legend about a gold prospector who was killed on the hill in the 1800s, and we were told that spirits of both people AND animals who once lived on the land are still believed to hang around. 👀

🍇 Ken Wright Cellars @kwcellars
Our final stop was Ken Wright Cellars for a vineyard tour and wine tasting, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at Oregon wine country. Ken has been making wine in Oregon since the 1980s and even helped establish the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, so this was such a cool place to learn more about what makes this region special.

After a full day out, we headed back to Summers Hill for a walk, some downtime, and obviously a soak in the hot tub.

I could definitely get used to Oregon wine country life. 🍷

For the past week, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to help out with harvest at Ken Wright Cellars in Oregon.

This is my second year spending a small part of harvest with the KWC team, and every time I come back, I leave with an even greater appreciation for just how much work goes into every bottle of wine.

This year was especially memorable. We handled some serious tonnage on the sorting line, working through what felt like an endless stream of fruit, but I also had the opportunity to get out into the vineyard and experience harvest from a completely different perspective.

Getting into a small block and actually picking Chardonnay by hand was one of the most humbling experiences I’ve had in wine. Filling a bucket sounds simple until you’re standing in the vineyard with clippers in your hand, working your way vine by vine and cluster by cluster. The amount of physical work that goes into filling just one bucket is incredible—and then you realize how many buckets it takes to bring in an entire vineyard.

Professional vineyard crews can move through these blocks with an efficiency that comes from experience and incredibly hard work. After trying it myself, I can confidently say that if I were getting paid by the bucket, I probably wouldn’t have earned enough for lunch that day. 😂

And picking the grapes is only the beginning.

From the vineyard crews bringing in the fruit, to the sorting line, cellar crew, winemakers, equipment operators, bottling teams, and everyone else along the way, there are an incredible number of hands behind every bottle we eventually get to open and enjoy.

It’s easy to see a finished bottle sitting on a table and forget everything that happened before it got there. Spending even a few days working harvest is a pretty incredible reminder.

So the next time you open a bottle of wine, take a second to appreciate not only what’s in the glass, but all the work—and all the people—that helped put it there. 🍇🍷
