"Energy is the most attractive thing a person can have. The way someone walks into a room and makes it feel different. The way their curiosity pulls you in and their enthusiasm reminds you that life is worth being excited about. And the way they make people feel seen, appreciated and inspired. That kind of energy is magnetic. People are drawn towards energy that feels expansive because energy is contagious. One negative person can drain an entire room. But one genuinely energized person can lift it too. Truth is: your energy introduces you long before you speak a single word. This is why your presence can become a superpower. And the energy you project into into the world is simply a mirror of the work you have done within yourself." - Simon Alexander Ong

Yakında görüşürüz canım, yakında döneceğim 🇹🇷💔

Yakında görüşmek üzere, Türkiye! ❤️🧿

Why I publish my photos so slowly

I take thousands of photos per event because countless moments happen and quick movements can't be caught with one single shot. It takes hours to choose the best photos.

On which photo is the dancer's pose better? The facial expression? The background? The light?

Expectations and performance pressure lead to self doubt. Which photo will the dancer like more?

Editing and cropping all photos one by one takes hours. (So please don't edit and crop my photos!)

I didn't shoot only your photos, I shot 3.679 photos.

Your photos are not my biggest priority. I came to the event as a friend to do you a favour and I worked for hours for free.

If my work was paid, the photos would come within a few days. But under such circumstances it can take even years.

The difference between a dance event photographer and a "dancefloor photographer". 😏

Every beginner (including me 😝) starts with sitting down next to the stage, observing the ones who are battling and end up going home with thousands of nearly identical photos from the same perspective. 😂

What seems easier from the outside, but is in my opinion a much more advanced way of immortalizing the spirit of the event: being everywhere at the same time and focus on every little detail where not all eyes are paying attention to at that moment.

Know the culture, know the legends, exchange, visit workshops, connect, have fun.

Dance events are so much more than just dance. Can you believe I've been in the scene since 2012 even though I don't dance? It's because the energy of the positive atmosphere is giving that addictive feeling to connect with your big family worldwide.

One love 🫶

I really love when friends or strangers show interest in getting photographed by me.

This kind of appreciation is worth much more than having good photos of dancers who never care about me, never support me and ignore my gifts to them.

But if I don't have a photo for you today, please don't be disappointed. Here are my reasons why:

1.) Photography is not a favour, it's hard work that must be paid - just like the work of other artists. It's unfair towards organizers who officially invite me if they get the same result as organizers who didn't invite me. And I can't work for free all day, just because you ask me for "one photo", next to a hundred other dancers/friends who want "only one photo" too. 🥴 If I shoot you for free, be aware you must appreciate it or I will put you on a black list. 😂

2.) I joined the event for fun, to support my friends or to shoot some photos for myself as a memory or for my portfolio. After 14 years of experience in breaking event photography it does happen that I randomly shoot strangers too or the preselection now and then, out of habit. But if my goal is to take only good shots in a short time, the easiest and quickest way is to just focus on the best dancers.

3.) I'm an event photographer, not a "dance floor photographer". I shoot the whole event, the staff, the cypher, the catering backstage, the merch shop, the graffiti artists outside, the audience, the music acts... I can't be everywhere at the same time. And the organizers don't want a portrait photo of every single attendant. They want big scenes, crowds, feelings, atmosphere and random moments.

4.) Documenting the whole event is extremely exhausting. I often get headaches and even migraines regularly. I need breaks. I can't watch every battle. I also want to socialize and hang out with friends now and then.

5.) I shoot everything manually. If I'm working with a complicated lense, the chances of catching a certain moment are even lower. Maybe I missed your part because I was busy with changing my camera settings.

Anyways, please keep asking! 🙏 So I know to pay more attention to you. 🫶
