Weak Skater? Want a more powerful stride?

Here’s Six Off Ice Exercises I use to build the lateral strength, single leg control, and hip capacity that support faster, stronger players.

1. Heavy Trap Bar Deadlift
2. Continuous Hurdle Jumps
3. Banded Skater Squats
4. Crossover Sled Sprint
5. Continuous Broad Jumps
6. Lateral Squat with Plate Adduction

Your skating stride and power are only as strong as the positions you can control.

The separation is usually not dramatic.

It is created in the details athletes are tempted to skip: the warm up, the setup, the intent behind the rep, the recovery between sessions, and the consistency to come back and do it again.

There is no single session that changes everything.

There is a standard built over hundreds of them.

That is the work.

2026-27 leadership reporting for duty 🫡

Kieran Cebrian, a Denver native and former Jr. Pioneer, has been named as DU Hockey's 97th captain in program history.

Alongside Cebrian, four other players have been assigned to back up the leadership role with fellow seniors Sam Harris and Cale Ashcroft, junior Jake Fisher and sophomore Kyle Chyzowski all acting as alternate captains for the season.

There is a certain energy that only exists in an off season.

Athletes from different teams and levels come together with the same goal: develop the physical qualities that support better performance in their sport.

The early mornings, the hard reps, the competition, and the standard they create for each other is something I already miss.

Now they have all returned to their respective teams.

The reward is getting to follow along throughout the season and see the work from the summer show up in how they compete, move, and carry themselves.

Proud of every athlete who invested in their development this summer.

Good luck this season. Go earn it.
