2 more, skip the last.

the first time i went to skate tepusquet canyon (aka tepe) was the spring of 2016. i was 20 years old and got a ride from @george_mhmmm in a busted 5 series. tepe was a road that i had seen my local skaters hit for years, and i dreamt of being able to skate the whole thing one day.

at the very first @tepe_and_tacos (called the central coast up n down in 2017), i had come off my second shoulder surgery but went to see the event anyway. this started a lifelong dedication to a place that transformed me into the skater that i am today and connected me with a community that i can call my own.

it's been a decade since my first trip. there have been 8 events total (2020 obv none and 2023 got yeeted by storms). ive been to every single one. even as the cracks formed into gaps and corners can now pryed apart with your bare hands, ive made my pilgrimage here.

tepe is special to a lot of us for different reasons. its located in a place that the whole state can reasonably get to. it is also one of the first events out here to not solely focus on the element of competition. rather, it was a family bbq/camping weekend that just happens to have world class downhill skateboarding available. it transformed me from a snot nosed grom to a member and pillar of a global community. one comprised of misfits, speed junkies, nature enthusiasts and the like.

nothing lasts forever. the road is on its way out and god forbid slo/sb county decide to actually fix their infrastructure. event insurance is insanely expensive now, as is damn near everything nowadays. people are broke, tired, and getting old. the world we're in now is not the world i started skating in back on 2010.

and that's ok. tepe and tacos gave me a lifetime of core memories and unbreakable bonds. @aerakrimes, the volunteers, and countless others gave their time money and care into delivering something special to us all these years. there will be more seshes, new faces and other events to go to. but ill never forget stomping pack runs with my friends and having a cold beer with a plate of tacos at the bottom of the hill.

grateful to be here from the start. grateful to be here for the end.
