Irgendwie habe ich es noch nicht geschafft, mal einen Post zu einem meiner Highlights dieses Jahr zu machen: Dem Bunte Hunte Kongress für Illustration 2026. Ich konnte leider nur am Sonntag, 14.06. da sein, weil ich Freitag und Samstag auf dem Sketchnote Barcamp war, AUCH ein Highlight, zu dem ich noch keinen Post gemacht habe. Vielen Dank an @patrick_wirbeleit und @dirkuhlenbrock für die Einladung und alle Helfer, die dieses geniale Event möglich gemacht haben! Ich hatte ja schon bisschen Schiß, einen Vortrag vor lauter KollegInnen zu halten. Außerdem war es mein zweiter öffentlicher Vortrag ever. Den ersten habe ich direkt davor beim Barcamp gehalten. Dinos zeichnen und was es dabei zu beachten gibt ... da weiß ich, was ich tue. Aber vor KollegInnen (und einem Verleger) einen Vortrag darüber zu halten, was alles in der Branche semioptimal ist, war schon etwas herausfordernd. Patrik wollte, dass ich etwas zu meiner Reihe "Dinge, die auf der Arbeit passieren" mache. Beim Vortrag habe ich, ebenso wie in der Reihe, versucht, alles möglichst faktenbasiert und auf meinen eigenen Erfahrungen fußend zu bringen. Es gibt sehr viel, über das man dazu sprechen kann. Honorare, Hierarchien, Umgang, düstere Zukunftsaussichten. Und ich habe versucht, Humor und ein paar positive Brocken reinzupacken. Ein Fazit ist auf jeden Fall, dass es wichtig ist, dass man miteinander spricht, auch über unbequeme Themen. Damit wir in unserem Job auch morgen noch kraftvoll, äh, zubeißen können. Die ersten anderen Vorträge habe ich leider verpasst, aber wenigstens konnte ich noch die Vorträge von @literaturagentur_stronk und *gasp @kyle.t.webster sehen! I decided to finish work slightly early today. I had a brain itch that needed scratching right away. I had a sketch of the main character from the Katamari video games from a bigger project I’m working on and the goofy little guy needed animated! I redrew my original sketch in photoshop using ‘Kyle’s Watercolour Brushes’. The animation is made up of four images repeated. I really wanted to capture an organic, easy, full of magic feel. . . #katamari #animation #digitalillustration #rockonrobot

𝘓𝘢 𝘝𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦, digital oils, 2026 Swipe for details and progress shots. Although this is only my third attempt at a digital portrait, I can already see some minor improvements: my brushwork is more confident, the facial proportions were better out of the gate (I did need to rework the eyes), and my colour selection more bold. As you can see in the process shots, I start by blocking in colours (the background, the skin, the hair, the dress), then carve out the profile of the face and slowly add detail. I find it much easier to accurately represent porportions this way as opposed to starting with a base sketch. I'm still working on one layer — I enjoy mimicking the traditional process 👩‍🎨 Massive thank you to the fantastic reference model, @blueper06 You are a wonderful muse! Hey friends! It’s been a while! This is an internal show logo for season 2 of Bad Thoughts on Netflix, starring @seguratom. This was just for internal paperwork and that sort of thing; NOT for marketing. My first pitch was slide 5, Tom with his skull open à la Pushead. The 80s skateboard graphics from my youth left an indelible mark, and I hoped Tom would feel the same. I did some other concepts (slide 6) to round it out, but we came back to the image of Tom. Next I submerged him in slimy goo to give it another bit of wretchedness while still giving us a bit of Tom’s likeness, and notes came down to remove the hand making the “two” gesture, and to swing the brain matter around 90° for a quicker read. I wish now that I’d thought to flip the whole thing and have the bilateral symmetry line split the words, but OH WELL. Slides 3 & 4 are my @kyle.t.webster “Doozy Inker” brush comp, and slides 1 & 2 are looks at the vector art version I did for the finished product. Tracy Dishman, production designer

I spent the last weekend in Buxtehude (near Hamburg) at the @buntehunte conference for children’s book illustration. ✨ It was my third time and even though last year’s talks were my personal highlight, I once again had a lovely time with colleagues and friends and met new people – as every year. ❤️ Thanks for being the best company @irinaillustrates, @kaeselotti, @katrinmeiller, @Julia.von.nimmermehr, @illustrie and @dieterbraun ! And thank you @patrick_wirbeleit and @dirkuhlenbrock for creating and organizing this event! For the first time ever I tried taking some #sketchnotes while listening to the speakers and what can I say, I was definitely much more awake than usually. 😅 1) Welcome speech and start of day 1! 2) quote from talk by @baltscheit: ”We all need to do bread-and-butter jobs, but we shouldn’t *only* do those – otherwise we lose the love for illustrating!“ (Loosely translated 😅) 3) There was a big festival going on in the small town of Buxtehude that weekend, so here are @irinaillustrates and me enjoying some good ol’ ✨bowle✨(fruit punch). 4) Also part of the conference’s program: an exhibition about Kurt Schmischke, who illustrated a ton of children’s books in the 50s and 60s but is strangely unknown. 5) We (like every year) had delicious afghan food for dinner! 6) quote from talk by Alexandra Polunin (which was about leaving social media, so no tagging possible 😆) She recommended doing podcasts, and I liked the little squirrel so there you are. 7) quote from talk by Moritz Klein from @peter_hammer_verlag: “Nothing’s as strong as picture books without words”. 8) sketch notes from @danielakulot ’s talk about her career of 30 years as an author/illustrator 9) lovely book by @mariannacoppo ❤️ published in German by @peter_hammer_verlag 10) Amazing exhibition by @martina_liebig featuring a lot of sketches and originals from her latest picture book 😍 11) End of Day 12! #iseefaces 12) Great talk by @feed_the_trex about all the negative sides of our really great job 🥲 13 & 14) Great talk by THE @kyle.t.webster about a not so straight path to success 😃 15) Goodbye speech: hope to see you all in Essen next year, if I have the money 🫠

A digital version of alcohol markers? I'm not sure if that's what @kyle.t.webster intended when he designed this brush but it certainly gives me that vibe. I don't have a lot of practice with alcohol markers to this drawing took me on an interesting journey... but I'm happy with where I landed. 😅 Head to my channel to watch how it came together (link currently in bio).

There are no words to accurately describe the level of rage I’m feeling. Creating is joy. Creating is resistance. Fuck AI. I know this is why @kyle.t.webster left @adobecreativecloud. I’m paying a small fortune a month for the Creative Cloud. I design all of my fabric collections in Fresco and Photoshop. But *I* create them. No AI. I’ve not found anything that is as good as PS or works as well for me as Fresco to recreate my natural painting style or BELIEVE me, I’d be leaving. Do better Adobe! Actual artists don’t want this shit!!! #fuckai #dobetter #aiisnotart
