I’ve trained at more than 30 Jiu Jitsu gyms over the years, and my visit to @serafinbjj in Evanston was something special.

The facility inside @gym.1801 was easily the nicest I’ve experienced. Beautiful training space, raised spring mats, incredible amenities, and an environment that makes you want to spend time there.

But what I’ll remember most is the people.

From my first interaction to the end of class, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. Kyle put together an excellent session, and every training partner made it a productive, enjoyable morning on the mats.

I only got a small glimpse of what they’ve built, but I left understanding why people speak so highly of this place. Great facilities are impressive. Great people and great culture are what make you want to return.

Serafin BJJ has both. Grateful for the experience, and I’ll absolutely be back when I’m in Chicago.

What’s the best gym you’ve ever dropped into, and what made it stand out?

Follow @krossgrapplinglab as I document my pursuit of better Jiu Jitsu through skill development, performance, experimentation, and sharing what I learn.

ELEVEN Months of Loving You! 🤍

Time is flying by, and before we know it, you’ll be ONE! How did we get here so fast? I wish I could slow down time and keep you little just a little longer.

Ive loved watching you learn new things every day, from waving bye-bye to showing off your little personality. You’re growing and changing so much.

We can’t wait to celebrate YOU next month and all the happiness you’ve brought into our lives over this past year.

Mama and Dada love you more than words could ever say! 🤍

Ten Months of Loving You! 🤍

And a week late… because somehow, life with you moves even faster than you do!

Jackson, you surprise us more and more every single day. You are so smart, so curious, and SO fast at crawling. You’re starting to take little steps with your walker, and while you’ve been clapping for a while now, you’re really getting the hang of high fives and waving bye-bye.

But hearing you say “mama” and “dada” is still my absolute favorite. Although, I should probably say screaming mama and dada… because quiet is definitely not your thing. 😂

You still have a way of lighting up every room are in! Even at a random restaurant, somehow you have people smiling and waving at you from across the room. You keep us on our toes, get into absolutely everything, and still haven’t decided that sleeping through the night is for you.

But somehow, we wouldn’t change a single thing. We love every laugh, every milestone, every sleepless night, and every crazy little moment that comes with being your parents.

10 months of loving you, Jackson. And we’ll love you more with every month that comes. 🤍

I’ll always be in your corner through every fight, every challenge, and everything in between.

You are the definition of discipline. You are determined, resilient, and relentless. When you say you’re going to do something, you put in the work and see it through.

I’m so incredibly proud of you and everything you continue to accomplish. Watching you chase your goals and put in the work to get there is something I’ll always admire.

Here’s to an amazing win and everything that comes with it.

And a huge thank you to all of your coaches and training partners who have pushed you, challenged you, supported you, and believed in you every step of the way. You’ve all played such an important part in getting him here. Thank you for not only pushing him in the gym, but for being there for our family too.
