“You need to learn how to become more of a lazy coach.”

Those were the words one of Kim’s very first coaching mentors shared with her years ago.

And immediately, all kinds of thoughts and assumptions came up.

Wait, WHAT? Isn’t my job to help people? Don’t I need to have the answers? Offer solutions? Make sure I’m bringing value to the conversation?

What she came to understand was that her mentor was teaching her one of the most important distinctions in professional coaching.

You don’t need to do all the work for your client.

And this is such a powerful lesson, not only for professional coaches, but for leaders at every level.

When we’re truly coaching, we recognize that the client is the hero of their own story. Our role isn’t to have all the answers, solve every problem, fill every silence, or take responsibility for someone else’s growth.

Our role is to ask great questions, listen deeply, maintain a strong coaching presence, and create the space for people to access their own wisdom, resourcefulness, and capacity.

And this is where so much of the magic happens.

At Lumina, this is fundamental to how we develop coaches and leaders. Learning to recognize our own assumptions, release the need to fix or direct, and cultivate the presence, partnership, and trust that allow meaningful transformation to unfold.

Because great coaching isn’t about how much YOU do. It’s about what becomes possible for the person in front of you.

A little story Kim shared during our September Level 2 pilot immersion. ✨

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Lumina! 🍂🤎

This Thanksgiving, our hearts are full of gratitude for the incredible people who are shaping this community, what we’re building together, and all that it’s becoming.

To our founding cohort, our current students, our faculty, and the new students preparing to join us in January, thank you for the trust, the courage, the curiosity, and the depth you bring to this journey.

We’re grateful for the learning, the conversations, the connections, and the growth that continues to unfold. For the clients who trust us with their stories, their aspirations, and their growth. And for the impact that continues to reach far beyond the learning and into the lives of our clients, families, organizations, and communities we serve.

One of the most meaningful things we explore through coaching is the power of presence. The ability to slow down, become more aware, and truly connect with what matters.

And gratitude is such a beautiful place to begin.
So this Thanksgiving, we invite you to reflect a little deeper.

What are you grateful for? And WHY is it so meaningful to you?

Because when we begin to understand the meaning behind what we’re grateful for, we deepen our awareness of ourselves, our values, and the people and experiences that shape our lives.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with presence, meaningful connection, and moments that remind you of what matters most.

With gratitude
Kim, Kyle & Kelly

The only way you can let someone be proud of their success without apology is if you can do it too.

You can only witness in someone else what you've allowed yourself to feel. Let yourself have it, and celebrating other people gets a lot easier.

The question we get asked most: what does the six months actually look like?

It starts with three days together in person. From there you move through four phases, from the foundations of professional coaching to building your own practice and preparing for your ACC. Mentor coaching runs alongside you the whole way.

75 hours of ICF accredited coach education, and a group of people you'll keep long after it's done.

Applications are open for our January 2027 cohort. Link in bio.
