365 days, 60 ish shows, 150 banquets, enough nicotine to kill a horse. 26 was a wild ride and 27 came faster that I had hoped. There have been more than a few moments in the past year where I thought I had bit off more than I could chew. More overwhelmed than I thought possible. But, I always try to remind myself I used to pray for times like this. If you were to ask me 5 years ago where I would be at 27, professional banjo player wasn’t even in the top 50. But through the grace of God and good people at my back and more sleepless nights than I’m willing to admit we made it. 60 or more shows and being flown across the country to share music with people.”Do not be afraid” is said 365 times in the Bible, 1 for every day and God knows I used every single one of them this year. Thank you to all the people, pictured and not in this post that made the difference for me. So here’s to 27 and more fun and more music for y’all.

I have a saying that goes “you could give a monkey a camera in a stadium and he’d take a good photo”.

Let me explain.

In perfect conditions people rely on those conditions. In imperfect conditions people rely on themselves. Candle lit clubs packed shoulder to shoulder is where you find the dogs. It’s always so refreshing having to reach deep in your bag and say “how do I capture this moment correctly” when the environment is against you. No lighting director? Fine. No pit? Better start shoving your way to the front.

What you create when the conditions are bad is the truest representation of yourself, and that’s applicable to life in general.

RIP to Queen Dolly. If we can learn anything from Dolly it’s to be kind, and yourself. Spread positivity but be taken seriously. Treat people with respect and remember everyone has a soul. The world lost a bright star but she will forever light the way. Wild flowers always survive. And we don’t care where we grow.

Busy past few days:
* @campfraddfun and I flew to Vermont for Colby Acuff and Charles Wesley Godwin performing two shows in Burlington, VT at Higher Ground
*Explored Burlington’s Church Street marketplace district and the waterfront
*Had too much fun and a lotta laughs @zacharyspizzavermont (in South Burlington). Fantastic owner, servers, and hilarious patrons!
*Flew back for the funeral of Brooke’s Uncle Bill Justus ☹️
*Saw Joe Stamm play at Pioneer Point in New Market, TN and met up with some pals @nolan_hensley_ and Susan. Such a great time seeing them, but we forgot to get pictures.
*Relaxing on this lazy Sunday afternoon listening to some vinyls on my mom’s old record player
