How is it almost August!? July recap in no particular order. Always thankful when I get to see my friends during summer. I said 2026 was my year and so far it’s been great 🥹

I promised @thistilly I’d throw all my stories from @unboundgravel up into a reel and I finally made it happen. Didn’t do much editing so enjoy the uncut scenes from our day chasing the race all over the gorgeous flint hills. I still can’t believe how monumental this event has become. I’m honored and quite proud to have been apart of it the last 18 of the 20 years it’s existed. The crew we now have with @bicyclecrumbs @thistilly @jweinberg @rhettshull @kylethornhill & @creedub is beyond my comprehension. The talent, the love, the stoke, the laughs, and the intention and dedication to the art is all so so good. Not to mention getting to be in the same space to watch legends like @dominiquepowers create her magic. I said it before and I’ll say it again. I love this event. It’s the people that make it what it is. Period. I must also say a massive thank you to @mohnstandard and @kcmohn for being the most gracious and wonderful friends and hosts when we’re in Emporia. Everything we do when we’re there for the race wouldn’t be possible in the same way without you. #unboundgravel #flinthills

Somehow, its in the moments of chaos that I feel the most calm. Its almost as if I can breath underwater.

I have never been someone who fit in, I’ve always been a black sheep. Never fitting in is a reality that I learned to be comfortable in. Guard your heart, listen before you speak, and try not to be too loud. It wasn’t until I met the people in this community that I started to feel like I found a place where I belonged. A place that felt safe to be the weird kid. A place that accepted me and my chaos. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to stand amongst these incredible humans, but I am truly honored to call them friends. If someone had told me that in my 30’s I would finally find friends that felt like home, I would have never believed them. Thank you to all you incredibly beautiful humans for a gift worth more than anything I could ever put a price on, friendship.

If you look, you will notice them. The ones who are not the usual focal point.

To answer the question “am I in your shot?”, I certainly hope so.

A new #PhotoPace. Very few words to describe what happened in Emporia, KS. Anything else that needs to be said is framed above by some of the best storytellers in gravel: @gwilliees, @kylethornhill, @thistilly, @dricthedad and @creedub

Off-camera flash is always better. Especially during sunrise with the crew at @unboundgravel

Looking for a compact flash to travel to events with, I picked up the super affordable @godox_global iT32 a few months ago and it’s quickly become a favorite piece of camera kit.

Beyond its compact size, it fires remotely without cables and because it magnetically connects to a transmitter, it can work across camera systems as long as you have the corresponding modular hot shoe mount (last slide shows Canon, Leica, and Fuji).

I finally pulled off the highway on the drive home from Kansas after missing opportunity after opportunity to photograph the environment that the highway cut through… but I also had to pee.

During this intermission @gwilliees stood outside of the car and took the time to pull out a block of wood that she had began whittling at when I took over to drive into Emporia. Her first wooden spoon was nearly finished. She apologized that her wood chips had flown back into the car and partially into my duffle. I told her, ‘No I’m kind of into that these days… these contextual remnants.’ These wood chips are only chips to those who don’t take the time to wonder. But a curious soul may recognize these carvings or, at least, appreciate what they could mean.

A bike race, whether it be 200 miles or 350 miles is just a bike race. Mud is just mud. A hug, albeit inherently special, is a common gesture. But, for those who know, those who have shared these remnants, they understand these to be evidence of something special.
