![Since moving back home to Chicago this June I have seen A LOT of shows. I’ve become quite familiar with the L going back and forth from the south side to all over in/around the city.
But THIS one right here blew me away.
Pulitzer Prize winner Michael R. Jackson creates a raw and honest portrayal of being big, black, and queer with A Strange Loop. The audience is so lucky to get a glimpse of what it must be like to experience one or a combination of these three things so beautifully portrayed by its lead @eddiejihad.
We laughed and we cried not only due to the amazing script and material but to the rest of the cast/the thoughts that brought a joy and energy to carry us through the entire time. Gun to my head I couldn’t pick a favorite because they were all so talented and charismatic. The set and lighting immersed us into this colorful world and use of creative blocking and direction by @mklburke got us focused, pulled, and locked in.
Don’t get me started on the vocals. I very much lean away from most musicals but this has definitely rose to the top for me. Wow. THIS is black [art] excellence.
Thank you to everyone else involved in this production. The hours of labor and love was very evident from start to finish. Cannot wait to catch a second viewing. Do NOT miss out on this one If tickets ever become available again/an extension is given. 10s across the mf board 🔟🔟🔟
(thanks again @see.paz for VERY accurately hyping this up)
