On this day was the first annual Summer Blockfest.

August 19, 2023.

At the time, we had about 50 vendors, barely any food trucks on the street, and before that just 20 days to pull everything together.

We had to put together everyone’s sets, coordinate performances, figure out production, and learn everything on the go. So much of it was a first for us, and we were learning as we went.

I’ll always be especially grateful to School of Rock Hoboken @sorhoboken
for helping us with the audio. Without that support, none of the artists would have been able to perform that day. 🙏🏽

There were critics who had their own opinions about what the outcome could have been for that first Blockfest. And that’s okay. People saw the final product, but they didn’t see everything it took to get there.

No one knows how much this moment meant to me.

I’m a current HHA resident, living just five blocks away from where this festival takes place. Seeing this vision come to life in my own neighborhood meant everything.

I was proud. I was thankful. And most importantly, I was thankful to God. 🙏🏽

The first Summer Blockfest may not have been perfect to me, but the moment meant everything.

And this journey has reminded me that nothing is impossible when you act on your faith.

What started with 20 days to get it all together, 50 vendors the day of, a vision, and a whole lot of faith is now heading into Year Four this Saturday. ❤️

August 19, 2023 — the day it all started.
