Cass Everage (@kzagryf), Otis College’s inaugural Charles White Scholarship recipient, is now a junior at Otis College majoring in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting, merging mediums like painting and quilt-making. He is confident and hopeful for the future he’s carving out for himself as an artist inspired by Kerry James Marshall (’78 BFA Fine Arts) and David Hammonds (’72 Fine Arts)—both former Charles White pupils and influential artists in their own right.

“I’ve been really finding strength, power, and agency in the fact that my individual material experience is informing the work.” - Cass Everage.

Read the full Q&A with Cass on otis.edu/news. Link in bio. Incoming students can apply by February 15 to be considered for the full-tuition Charles White Scholarship.

This past weekend WE did a thing and the turnout was monumentous for such an impromptu idea.

I’m grateful WE came together to showcase what we’re exploring and thinking through.

“IF I KISSED IT WOULD THAT MAKE IT BETTER?” Perhaps is a rhetorical question, because with all the sweet hugs and kisses the other evening, outside of our own intrinsic motivations, it did make it better.

IF I KISSED IT, WOULD THAT MAKE IT BETTER?
Saturday | March 11, 2023 | 7-10p
______________________________
IF I KISSED IT, WOULD THAT MAKE IT BETTER? Visually expounds upon the infinite spectrum of Black and Brown critical artistic practices. This period in history pivots towards power and affirmation of the self and gives access to new selves. This collective of artists have created a range of art responsive to their moment—including figurative and abstract paintings, video work, photography, digital design, sculpture, and performance.

This group exhibition brings together students currently attending Otis College of Art and Design that are actively critically thinking how their works incite discussion and dialogue in ways that lean towards generating power not only for themselves but for those that look like them. The works provide an opportunity to not only self-soothe, but self-reflect, and turn inwards to alchemize and transmute unwarranted projected social and cultural identities.

Participating Artists | Andrè Atkins, Fawlene Aziza, Tiahna Barmore, Cassidy Everage, Santoni Kina, Peña Espinoza Peña, Tyler Reed, Suni Mullen, Joseph Louis Sherman Jr., and DaRon Vinson.
