What a grand evening. Last night, got the privilege of going to @nbfffilipino at @newportbeachfilmfest where they premiered @sisamovie. It was a great film that showed complex Filipinos trying to survive the Philippines American War, a time that pushed Filipinos to the brink. I was impressed by the performances and by @hildakoronel.official portrayal of such a tragic character. Congratulations to @reycuerdojr on a wonderful film!

I was also very impressed by the @nbfffilipino team. I know they were students, but they were incredibly professional. I’m super proud of @nevaehsanluis, Brandon and especially @l_designer42, whom I first met as a freshman BEFORE the pandemic at @ivcelevateaapi.

Also had fun networking with a bunch of Filipino Americans trying to put more art out there that represents our perspectives.

Truly a privilege. Thank you.

Last night was an extremely special night for the @nbfffilipino team. This year’s first Filipino Spotlight was made possible because the three of us bet on ourselves after the Hong Kong spotlight was postponed. We pitched to our professor, the CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival, why we believe the Philippines should have its own Spotlight this year.

In just three weeks, as the smallest student-led team of the Pacific Rim Showcase, we’ve managed to deliver one of the largest spotlight turnouts, with a sold-out premiere, a second screening, and a long list of amazing Filipino supporters, partners, and sponsors who helped bring this evening to life.

As a Filipina, I feel so proud to be representing the Philippines alongside L, and Brandon, to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment, and to set the foundation for future Filipino Spotlights, celebrating Filipino culture, creatives, and cinema 🇵🇭✨

A special thank you to @reycuerdojr for your guidance, the @sisamovie @theideafirstcompany for their support, Gregg Schwenk for taking a chance on us, the @csufcommdept for the opportunity, and to all of you for the love and support we received last night. It was an absolutele dream and we hope you all enjoyed your night celebrating with us.

The Filipino Spotlight team was honored to be a part of the grand opening of @felisacafe_ yesterday. The evening was spent drinking Turon Milk Tea, singing Tagalog songs, and celebrating the Fullerton Filipino American community.

If you want to keep the FilAm party going, you can join us on October 21st for the West Coast premiere of Sisa, a drama thriller about a female spy resisting American occupation in the Philippines in 1902. Come and enjoy watching a film in Tagalog, and celebrate Filipino culture and film!

Watch the exclusive premiere of Filipino film, Sisa at Starlight Triangle Cinemas on October 21st at 7:15pm. Purchase tickets online at NewportBeachFilmFest.com or through the link in our bio
