UP THIS WEEK AT CAFE OTO: 27-31 MAY Still to come this week: Baba Yaga’s Hut present La Cozna + Mary Hampton, the world premiere of Dave Huismans’ In Transit live, Drew McDowall with Dale Cornish opening, Dialled In London’s fifth birthday with Honiunhoni Records, and David Toop / Ecka Mordecai / Christian Kobi returning after their Meenna release. WED 27 MAY BABA YAGA’S HUT: LA COZNA + MARY HAMPTON La Cozna rework songs of love, violence and freedom drawn from 20th-century French collections, using drum machines, guitar and voices to pull them into darker, rougher forms. Mary Hampton opens with songs that move between folk tradition, personal narrative and exacting emotional detail. THU 28 MAY DAVE HUISMANS IN TRANSIT LIVE + ELENI POULOU + FERGUS JONES Dave Huismans, aka 2562 / A Made Up Sound / ex_libris, presents the world premiere of In Transit live: a FELT-released project first written on a Korg ESX sampler in 2013, then refined across years into melodic fragments, skewed electronics and memory-worn dancefloor traces. Eleni Poulou and Fergus Jones complete the bill. FRI 29 MAY DREW MCDOWALL + DALE CORNISH Drew McDowall returns with music shaped by Coil, Psychic TV, modular synthesis, drones, pibroch and electroacoustic transformation, following A Thread, Silvered and Trembling and his 2025 Kali Malone collaboration Magnetism. Dale Cornish opens with stripped-back electronics, deadpan vocal presence and a reduced South London sensibility, following his release, Altruism, on The Death Of Rave. SAT 30 MAY DIALLED IN LONDON Dialled In’s fifth birthday stretches across Dalston, with OTO hosting Honiunhoni Records: a Pakistan-based label and collective preserving and recontextualising South Asian musical traditions. Tony & Billa perform, opened by a tabla duet from their kids, Kayam & Ali. SUN 31 MAY DAVID TOOP / ECKA MORDECAI / CHRISTIAN KOBI David Toop on objects, Ecka Mordecai on cello and Christian Kobi on soprano and tenor sax return as a trio after the release of their 2024 OTO set on Tokyo’s Meenna label. 🎟 Tickets via link in stories and cafeoto.co.uk → Discounted member prices as always

Tomorrow! May 27th @la.cozna and Mary Hampton at @cafeotodalston Doors open at 7.30 Mary Hampton on stage at 8 La Cozna at 9 Tickets on sale via Dice La Cozna brings together musicians Clémentine Ristord (bass clarinet, drone box), Benjamin Garson (electric guitar), Pierre-Antoine Despatures (double bass) and Nicolas Jacobée (vocals). The quartet takes a series of traditional French songs from 20th-century collections and brings them into the present. Passed down in whispers in the secrecy of kitchens, these women's songs are stories of love, violence and freedom that play on domination with humour, drama and poetry. In Ni Nuit Ni Jour, the ambiguity of the lyrics flirts with a feverish sound, tense with desire and darkness. Mary Hampton makes new versions of traditional songs and offers them up as questions, and sometimes challenges, to the modern listener. Using voice, tenor guitar and a selection of other tools, she carries them through her own peculiarly raw-but-tender sound-world. The stories she tells explore the timeless liability of embodied experience.
