My debut album, Cracking, is out today. It was recorded back in 2024-2025 at RTN studios. Since then, it’s been gathering dust. I had the time of my life making this music and for a while I wasn’t sure if I needed to release it. To have done it, to have made a record with some of my best friends, that was enough.
I think sitting with that realisation for the past year made me finally ready to release this now. I’ve had my time with the record. Now it is yours.
Here’s all the beautiful people that helped make this thing. I’m eternally grateful to know them all.
@cormacgrant electric guitar, camera work, a best friend, forever thankful for him. One of the best musicians and people that I know.
@manuel__rohrl bass, always plays the perfect thing, all round wonderful human.
Fraser Marshall doesn’t have Instagram but he was the other half of this record. Drums, production, mixing, mastering, backing vocals, tambourine, xylophone. A shining example of patience, trust, kindness, and enthusiasm. Couldn’t have done it without him.
@hicharliescott electric guitar, one of the kindest people, brought atmosphere and ripping solos.
@perfectcoatweather lap steel, life long friend. He knew exactly what these songs needed.
@eddiellemia saxophone, incredibly humble, came in and blew us away.
@ella_day piano, vocals. The first time we played dog together she immediately made that song whole.
@chris__quinton synth, moves at a lightning speed creatively, so supportive and giving.
@lachlanxmorris slide guitar, seasoned pro, feel very lucky to have him on the record.
@jonobsmith_music violin, string work unmatched, cannot hear these songs without his string lines now.
@jacob_gower_ visuals, stills, shot the album cover, was up at the crack of dawn, committed, incredible photographer.
@sketchy____kid and @linear.wave.sampler for the visuals, both so patient, talented and invested.
@willyjohnracingteam for his help with the dog vid, and for bringing RTN into my world.
@__saylor__ and @tmhndrsn for building some of these arrangements with me, beautiful friends.
@sophmawk for everything, always.
To everyone that has come to a gig, listened to the music, been kind. Thank you.

This weekend I clamber on stage with these emotional blokes again, at the Stag and Hunter in Newy on Saturday 20 and Mosphit in Newtown on Sunday arvo at 5pm.
Lachlan X Morriss supports us on Saturday and the great Steph Marchant on Sunday. Its gonna be tops.

We finished recording Tropic Of Varispeed in April 2023.
Finding the right artwork that looked like how the album sounded, turned out to be a real struggle.
It took the better part of two years to get the album sounding how we wanted, and it felt wrong to rush the visual element across the finish line.

Then in May 2025, I noticed an exhibition taking place at Straitjacket, where we have performed in the past.
In my head, there was an instant correlation between Zac’s work and our sounds, and all that was left was to reach out to him, and thankfully he was really into the idea of teaming up on this album release project.
Soon after, Boots and I went along to take some photos of Kerfuffle at Straitjacket, which was a total joy. The scale of the work is epic.

The immense sense of closure from finding that right bond between sight n sound was well worth the wait.
