Slow to post @lagiermeredith harvest! This is such amazing 😻 wine 🍷! Unique in every way, just like the people that planted it. We picked Syrah, Mondeuse, Malbec and Zinfandel. @toscapott is making her own rosé out of this inspired by the works of the Brontë Sisters and the great Jane Austen. The rest will be released as Pott Wine in 2028! A beautiful year culminating in a tiny but high quality vintage. #wine #napa #syrah #vineyards #napavalley

I always tell everyone that the thing I love about Pascaline Lepeltier is you get absolutely no bullshit from her, only explanation, knowledge and complete honesty when talking about wine. I’m thrilled to just get her new book "One Thousand Vines: A New Way to Understand Wine”. I just started it, but it looks fantastic! A must get book for anyone serious about wine.

Some reflections of my visit in our estate vineyard yesterday. Lots of shovel 🪏 passes to remove undesirable weeds. A daunting amount of suckering and lateral removal to be done. Because of the cool and rainy conditions during flowering we have some clusters mostly on short shoots that are behind and shot berries and shatter on other clusters. This makes the decisions that we make about the green drop very important. We will have to work on a vine by vine basis to determine yields and make ripening more homogeneous. Some of these images capture the dichotomy between technology and tradition in our vineyard organic since the inception. Our new @lumosystems irrigation control system makes an appearance. The solar panels are used to power its function and direct communication. However it is still by hand that we operate at Pott Wine. Some fun pictures of the sensational @promontorywine vineyards on the ridge across Dry Creek below us. @lagiermeredith #vineyards #wine #napa #cabernetfranc #cabernetsauvignon

Our weekly @roguevines meetup yesterday embraced an informal theme of “Steep Slopes & Tannins” 🍷⛰️ — from higher elevation vineyards to precarious hillside plantings, the lineup turned into a fascinating conversation about how steep slopes can shape concentration, structure, ripeness, and energy.

The first bottle I brought @domainechagnoleau’s 2024 Viré-Clessé ‘Les Raspillères’ which comes from a tiny, high-elevation limestone-rich vineyard at roughly 300 meters (the highest site in Viré) producing a linear, finely detailed Chardonnay marked by precision and mineral focus. Frantz and his wife Caroline Gon, both deeply experienced in the Mâconnais through work with Olivier Merlin and Dominique Lafon’s Héritiers du Comte Lafon, farm organically across steep, old-vine sites and craft wines that emphasize freshness, tension, and terroir transparency through low-intervention élevage. The cool 2024 vintage especially highlights the domaine’s signature racy, vibrant style.

My second bottle was @vincentjf’s Fritzsche 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Bengier Vineyard, a classically styled Napa Cabernet sourced from Oak Knoll fruit farmed by Matthiasson at the base of Mt. Veeder. Inspired by childhood memories of visiting Napa, the Oregon-based winemaker crafted the wine in a lower-alcohol, old-school style (naturally around 13% ABV), emphasizing freshness, finesse, and varietal character over power. Made from just three barrels, the wine shows blackberries, cassis, herbs, gravel, and gentle tannins in a lithe, restrained expression of Napa Cabernet.

Other stunners in the wineup last night included: a Schramsberg sparkling wine from Fort Ross-Seaview, a Cab Franc-Merlot blend from Nantais, a 2000 Cabernet from Sonoma Mountain, and a Syrah-based dessert wine from Mount Veeder.
