Small muscle group. Big consequences 👀

Would you start your upper body sequence with Reverse Sexy Back?

This exercise is a great example of why understanding muscle function is essential when building an effective sequence.

The triceps brachii isn’t responsible only for elbow extension. Its long head also crosses the shoulder joint and contributes to shoulder extension, acting as a synergist in certain pulling movements.

That means your triceps are involved in both pushing and pulling exercises, although their contribution and function differ depending on the movement.

Now think about what happens when you fatigue them at the very beginning of your upper body sequence.

You may reduce their ability to contribute effectively to the compound movements that follow.

And here’s the interesting part:

The muscle that limits your performance isn’t necessarily the muscle you’re trying to target.

Your chest, shoulders, or back might still have the capacity to continue working, but fatigue in a supporting muscle could compromise your performance.

Does that make Reverse Sexy Back a bad exercise to start with?

Not necessarily. It depends on your objective.

But if your goal is to maximize performance across your entire upper body sequence, exercise order deserves much more consideration.

Good sequencing isn’t about memorizing exercise combinations. It’s about understanding how muscles work together, how fatigue accumulates, and how one exercise influences the next.
