Introducing running after ACL reconstruction isn’t about hitting a timeline—it’s about earning each step. 🏃‍♂️💪

For the first 12 weeks, we focus on restoring range of motion and building single leg strength. Once patients are 12+ weeks post-op, cleared by their surgeon’s protocol, and demonstrate at least 75% quadriceps strength symmetry, we begin introducing pre-plyometrics.

We start with controlled landing drills like snap downs and step downs, emphasizing movement quality, avoiding compensations, and teaching patients to feel the right muscles working. Once they master the basics, we progressively challenge them with new variations before transitioning those landing mechanics into bounding and, ultimately, jogging.

Running is repetitive landing. Master the landing, and running becomes smoother, more efficient, and less compensatory. Throughout the process, strength remains the priority as we progress based on each patient’s response.
