I finally got my hands on The Guardians of Dreamdark Silksinger by Laini Taylor 🔥🍂

I was very afraid I'd have to resort to buying a scalped copy because I couldn't find on anywhere 😭 luckily barnes and noble brought them back online a week after publication so was able to order from there.

Am hoping this mean we'll be getting a book 3 next year? 🤞🤞

I became friends with one of my favorite authors!
A couple of years ago I joined an online writing community hosted by Laini Taylor, author of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Strange the Dreamer, and Guardians of Dreamdark.

Flash forward to October 8th, 2024—day three of our community’s annual writers’ retreat. It was late afternoon, I’d been writing all day, and I was tired and probably still a little jet-lagged. I decided I could either take a power nap or go for a walk around the grounds and through the village.

I don’t actually nap well, so I chose the walk.

On my way out of the manor, I passed @lainit, who said, “Oh, hold on, I’ll go with you. I just need to change my shoes.”

Now, it may surprise a few people to learn that I can have pretty major social anxiety in certain situations. I’m worried I’ll say the wrong thing, or make a dumb joke that doesn’t land and makes me sound like an idiot, but staying quiet has never really been a strength of mine. Sooo, going on a walk with someone who is basically a celebrity to me definitely caused some mild panic, but I needn’t have worried.

I felt awkward at first—especially when I realized our walk was rapidly becoming a Laini Q&A, but I don’t think she minded 😅. We talked about her books, her writing life, she gave me advice, and we discussed possible “what if _____ happens when I’m published?” scenarios.

Overall, it was very surreal, and lovely. The best part was when we came across a small church with a graveyard where we—being the two weirdos that we apparently are—spent several minutes marveling at the unique names on various headstones that will likely inspire characters in a story someday.

If you’d told me back in 2014 when I first discovered her books, that 10 years later I’d be wandering through a village in Wales talking writing with her, I’m not sure I would’ve believed you.

Two years later I’m still really glad I chose the walk❤️

PS: special shout-out to OG BookTuber @katytastic, who’s the reason I bought and read Daughter of Smoke and Bone in the first place 💕

Okay, I might have made one dumb joke that, “Beautifully Bonkers” would be the adjectives I’d use to describe myself… 😬

Oh well

We're smack dab in the middle of #witchyseason so, here are six stories that I feel fit the theme VERY neatly!

𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒆 by @rhiannonhargadon , recently released, Salem witch trials retelling ... I'm telling you, you gotta read it.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑶𝒏𝒆 by @emmahammauthor , first in a trilogy and the last one JUST released as well, about a princess coming back to life seeking revenge ... as a witch ... you get the gist.

𝑨 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 by @debharkness , the OG for me. There's no spooky season without Diana and Matthew!

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒚𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 by Robert Jordan. Would the Aes Sedai count as witches? I say yes! I'd definitely count Moiraine as one.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒆 by C.S. Lewis. The White Witch featured in my nightmares one too many times not to include her in this post.

𝑫𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒎𝒐𝒌𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒆 by @lainit yes, I consider Karou a witch of a sort. This trilogy is a must read if you're into monsters, resurrections, and lost civilizations.

And there you have it! A few recommendations this season. Bet you find at least one book on here you end up loving (or already do).

How my love of the fantasy genre all started! I come across so many bookstagrammers who discovered fantasy through ACOTAR or Fourth Wing (I love those series too by the way) but it goes WAY further back for me. 25+ years now….🫣
How did it start for you?

《#ResenhaHDML》 // @lainit // @universodoslivros // páginas: 384 páginas // disponível no KU
