Beyond the dance floor ❤️🖤

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that invests in our student-athletes both on and off the floor! Grace and Reece represented LFC Dance at today’s Speed Networking event, connecting with alumni and professionals while building valuable relationships for their futures.

At Lake Forest, we’re developing not only great athletes, but confident leaders ready to make an impact beyond college. ❤️🖤

To honor Indigenous Peoples' Day, we celebrate the achievements of Class of 1980 alumnus Tom Harjo! ⭐

Since graduating Lake Forest College in May 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy, he has worked in film production (including on 1988's The Blob!🧫) and has become an award-winning photographer, documenting important cultural events including the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests at Standing Rock and the Native Nations Rise March in Washington, D.C. As a Muskogee/Creek, Seminole, Quapaw, Shawnee, Delaware, and Cherokee Indian, Tom was one of the first Indigenous students to attend the College.

When Tom graduated, it had only been two years since the 1978 passage of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, which finally restored some Native American civil liberties such as the right to practice their religious culture. It wasn't until Fall 1994 that the College held its first Native American Week (later called First Americans Celebration) to provide greater cultural education by bringing in Indigenous speakers and performers. The student organization Native American and Indigenous Students (NAIS) was established at the College only in recent years.

Check out Tom's impactful photography at trexharjo.com! Please reach out to the Archives (archives@lakeforest.edu) if you want to learn more or share your own experiences with us!
