𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘺, 𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘺, 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘸𝘩𝘰'𝘴...recently completed another trip around the sun! 😜 Today rounds out my birthday week, so I thought I'd share my "40 to 40" progress vid.
🏒
CONTEXT: As an avid hockey household, Ro's been learning to skate for a while. At the rink, I realized I didn't want to be a parent on the sidelines; engrossed in my phone or a spectator to my son's life. I want to be an active participant in his upbringing — skating with him, teaching him stickhandling, taking his slapshots, etc. But of course, that meant learning WTF I was doing.
😅
So, every day, for forty days, I've been doing SOMETHING to help me train alongside Ro (skating, rollerblading, balance, coordination, drills, with a few breaks here & there). I call it my "midlife thrive-sis" — because getting older doesn't mean growing "old." ✌️ A heartfelt thank you to everyone who's helped me on this journey and supported me. 🥂 Cheers!

𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝐹𝒾𝓃𝒶𝓁𝑒. ⛸️✨🤍

Earlier this year, I decided I was ready to retire from the sport I had spent over 20 years of my life in. But after six months, I realized I wasn’t quite ready for my competitive career to end. With the final NQS deadlines approaching, I signed up for a chance to compete and say one last goodbye to this chapter.

With only six weeks before my first competition, I got new programs and started completely from scratch. Everyone thought I was crazy, myself included. It was challenging at times, but I am so glad I took the chance. What started as one last opportunity to compete became so much more than I ever expected.

To my coaches, I am so grateful for you. Karen, you fostered my passion for this sport, and I owe so much of what I have learned and who I have become to you. Grant and Caroline, what a journey it has been. I couldn’t have achieved what I did or become the skater I am today without you. I am eternally grateful for everything you have done for me. 🤍

To my parents, thank you for first putting me on the ice, believing in me before I could believe in myself, and reminding me that my dreams were possible. You have supported me every step of the way and helped make those dreams a reality. I wouldn’t be here without you. 🤍

The skating community will always hold a special place in my heart. I have met so many people I will truly cherish, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I will always be part of this sport, and it will always be a part of me.

Skating is my first love, my happy place, and my home. I will truly miss competing, but this year has given skating a whole new meaning to me. This season became so much more than I planned, reminding me why I fell in love with this sport and how special it will always be to me.

This isn’t the end of my figure skating journey, but the beginning of a new chapter. I thought LA Autumn Classic would be my full-circle moment and final competition. It was bittersweet and everything I could have hoped for. It was the perfect ending to a perfect story. Or so I thought… 🥹

I’ll see you all for the encore in San Jose! ⛸️✨🤍

The MOVEMENT vs. The MOMENT

Photographing movement is interesting because there are just some things a still photo can't convey to the viewer.

Some figure skating spins are absolutely BREATHTAKING but the still photo just doesn't do the movement justice.

On the other hand, there are spins (like this one) that I can't decide which still to post because it looks great from multiple angles!

This photo won out because I love the aesthetic balance and shape the skater is in here.
But I do find the actual movement of this shape in the spin to be equally mesmerizing!

First competition of the season in the books! Lots of memories were made at LA Autumn Classic 2026, starting from getting glam 💄 in the parking structure to feeling the energy of the crowd to coming home with some hardware 🥉. Thanks to Gwen’s dad @alfred_instagram for these beautiful photos.
