As the final two stages closed - we had hinted there would be another small surprise, however, we didn’t allude to any information about it. The two stages on which we had worked so hard and were above ground, was the main experience, and our schedule technically finished there. However, our team had been preparing a subterranean experience for those who still had energy as both stages and their program came to an end.

We programmed it like this for two reasons:
• firstly, the secret tunnel to the underground space was quite small, and therefore we didn’t want to overcrowd the unique dwelling. Even we had laid out bamboo carpets and asked guests to remove their shoes, as it was quite an intimate space, and we’d prefer not to overcrowd or over publicize this Easter egg treat at the end of long wild journey, to ensure it was more enjoyable for all.
• secondly, out of respect for another beautiful event which happens in a cave and is orchestrated by friends of ours - we didn’t want to lead with this concept or lead with this idea to be the reason people came to our event.
In general, we have always programmed and placed our event a healthy distance from other wonderful events in Vietnam, so has to allow success for everyone to thrive, in such a small intimate and meaningful scene.

That being said, the surprise was so much more worth it when we got to see the look on people’s faces when they had entered our secret space. Equipped with professional sound, dynamic lighting, and the hard work of our teams, and experiment residency artists visions, it was the perfect ending to what was already such a special, mind expanding weekend.

We gave space for many of the artists who followed us through this journey to play together b2b, and while we couldn’t see the sunrise, we had played well into it although being multiple feet underground.

In a way it was a great metaphor for how the scene operates when dynamics shift in the operations of an environment - artists gather and organize deeper underground, creating new worlds, pathways, and experiences often out of the light.

In the end, despite all that happened, our commitment was with those who believed and joined!

It’s hard to find the right words to say, especially after 6 months since this unique boutique program, we had found ourselves 10 days away from our biggest and most beautiful Outlandish Festival - only for the venue to pull out due to new regulations and restrictions around their space.
Without that iconic Gam Troi Valley we didn’t feel it was fair to call the experience we were about to embark on outlandish.

With that being said, it was one of the most beautiful events we had ever done and for the 150 people who decided to follow us further we don’t think it will be an experience most people easily forget.

In no time we orchestrated a three stage event over two venues - and our most inspired program of kindred artists, workshops, and artists on board.

To those that followed us into the abyss - we appreciate so much the dedication and support. It wasn’t easy, smooth, or profitable for us to go the way we did - and yet we felt support every step of the way. The community came together - as we felt she shift happening and yet we truly believed in the purpose of our party. It isn’t to escape reality but instead to create a new one - and together we shaped an incredible new world, program and concept.

We couldn’t have done it without our unreal team and the eccentric collectives and artists who shared in our vision - even we had given the vision for others to lead - as we had such little time to make alternate realities, in a situation that was rapidly changing, we understood then that @outlandish.vn isn’t one venue, one crew, one party, but a common collective designing an environment of love, expression, safety and dedication in mutual harmony towards being an outsider dedicated deeply to crafting a home away from home - without judgement, without dictating how to be from any direction. Trust one another to create blissful state - and we need not much else than the music and the art to guide us through the night. A truly ecstatic experience we hardly could bring ourselves to put back into words for so long - with a sensation of not knowing how it will be interpreted by outside forces - we kept quiet - and now we are focused deeper to revive this spirit.

As summer slowly departs, I believed passion was running dry.

I remembered a time asking a fellow creator how he managed to organize multiple jazz festival on multiple mountains on a tiny island, you must have so much passion?! He said no, passion will only get you so far, then you need intelligent design, systems, and frameworks.

Driving alone up the mountain in search of the Red Shanked Douc, I realized the passion already ignited and burnt long ago, it drove me to establish an absurd amount of projects. Believing even 5 years ago that a record label around an endangered monkey was something that had to happen, and here we were playing the music we curated to people all over the world. @shankeddoucrecords was born, and much like the Shanked Douc itself we were living quietly in the trees, until anterior forces start to uproot our way of life.

However odd to us that things are changing as they do; an artist, a passionate driven “outside the box” thinker will always adapt, always grow and evolve into new forms, directions and pathways.

All in search of creating our version of paradise.

When I remind myself, where I was 10 years ago, a wandering soul- in search of a home, and hoping to Buddha, Allah, God, or Shiva that there was a more virtuous, creative and alternative way to live than what had been presented by the countries I lived and left before.

I had to look at myself, my past and current desires, and consider to suspend everything to see where a rest stop in Hanoi could take me.

Only by referencing my mental state a decade before could I recognize how far things have come into the direction that was designed. @airtime.asia collected the spirit of young, thrifty dreamers doing their best in the scenes they exists within. Some are more blessed than others, and some deal with extreme limitations, yet it hasn’t stopped anyone from sharing their sounds and experiences.

Damn Vietnam that was unreal!
Sitting at the airport reflecting on the past two @outlandish.vn festivals. My heart is so warm wow so much dedication goes into throwing parties over here! the scene is so full of people who go out of their way to express themselves and connect through art and music. Big ups to the team who curated such a beautiful event including all the pre parties in the lead up to the outsider retreat.

Highlights had to be the top notch selection of wax @vinagroove.records , partying in a cave (sounds richocheting off the walls) , b2bs with new and old friends and all the experiences shared with beautiful people I met along the way 🫶🪩🪲 forever grateful
