When we encounter love, it’s natural to want to hold onto it tightly, to protect it, and to guard it with all we have. Yet, in doing so, we risk losing the very essence of what makes love beautiful. Love, like a rose, is fragile. Its beauty is most evident when we hold it gently, nurturing it with care and respect. But when we clutch it too tightly, with obsession rather than care, we miss the point. Instead of enjoying the grace it brings, we find ourselves wounded by the very thing we hoped to protect. Obsession often stems from fear-fear of loss, fear of being vulnerable, fear of not being enough. This fear makes us grasp love in a way that’s controlling, suffocating, and ultimately destructive. We mistake intensity for depth and passion for true connection. But love doesn’t thrive in suffocating grips; it flourishes in freedom, in the space to grow and evolve. The tighter we hold, the more we risk damaging what is delicate and beautiful. The thorns of the rose represent the risks and challenges that come with love-vulnerability, sacrifice, uncertainty. These are not things to fear or avoid; they are integral parts of love’s true beauty. Yet, when we hold onto love with obsession, we bleed from these thorns, as we try to control every aspect of it. We forget that love requires us to let go sometimes, to trust, and to give space for both joy and pain. True love is not about gripping tightly, but about embracing with an open hand, knowing that while love can wound us, it can also heal and transform. It’s about learning to appreciate the beauty in both the petals and the thorns, and understanding that love’s greatest depth is found not in possession, but in the freedom to give and receive with grace.
