British Columbia's best-kept freshwater secrets are found here 🎣🛶🏔
Our region is Wells Gray to Lower North Thompson, South Cariboo & Kamloops area
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It kills me that people live in BC and never take the time to road trip the North Thompson Valley!

The drive from Kamloops to Valemount is one of those trips where the stops are half the fun and you can see a ton of wildlife!

Start around Kamloops with Lac du Bois Grasslands and the Kamloops Lake viewpoint, then make your way north to Johnson Lake near Barrière and stop at Teníye Local Market for a bite and a look around.

From there, spend some time around Clearwater and chase some waterfalls in Wells Gray Provincial Park before heading north through the valley. If you’re hungry make sure to stop in at the famous Log Inn Pub for some burgers and stop at little hells gate. Then make your way to Blue River for a Blue River Safari and a visit to Mud Lake.

Keep heading north and you’ll eventually reach the Valemount area, where you can stop for coffee at Vale Coffee, explore Kinbasket Lake, hike the Aloha Trail and finish the trip with Mount Robson.

Some of these are little detours off Highway 5, but that’s exactly the point! Don’t just drive through the North Thompson. Get off the highway and actually explore it.

Save this one for your next BC road trip!

The best life hack 🌲🏔️

** Drone footage filmed with proper permits from BC Parks for a project I did with Tourism Wells Gray. Please remember that drones are not allowed in provincial parks without proper permits

One of the wildest sights in Wells Gray Provincial Park

Every late summer, salmon make their way up the Clearwater River, with some attempting to leap the rapids at Bailey’s Chute. Watching them fight their way upstream is such a cool reminder of just how much wildlife is happening beneath the surface here.

Bailey’s Chute is an easy walk to a viewing platform, making it one of the places in Wells Gray where you can get a front row view of the salmon run.

If you’re exploring Wells Gray in late August or September, add this one to your list!
