🦅 Clover Blue Eagles | ASICS Carolina Distance Carnival Recap📍 Weddington HS Track | Matthews, NC | April 17–18, 2026

The ASICS Carolina Distance Carnival @carolinadistancecarnival once again delivered one of the premier stages in high school distance running. This year’s meet featured 275 teams from across the country, including programs from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Utah, Texas, Montana, and beyond. The competition was historic, highlighted by several world records (yes WORLD RECORDS) set over the weekend.

Against that elite national field, the Clover Blue Eagles brought 57 entries and rose to the challenge, turning in a weekend full of personal records, breakthrough performances, and program history. Most impressively, 23 of the 28 Clover athletes who competed — 82.1% of the team — recorded at least one personal best, showing just how well the Blue Eagles answered the call on a national stage.

Friday: 800m and 3200m
The Clover women opened competition in the 800m with a strong showing, led by Ava Jagielski (Sr), who ran a personal-best 2:19.77 to place 43rd overall and rank among the top South Carolina performers. She was followed by:
* Kaya Best (Jr) – 2:32.16 PR
* Jackie Kirk (Jr) – 2:36.19 PR
* Nadia Andrews (Jr) – 2:36.86
* Madison Wilson (Soph) – 2:37.63
* McKinley Johnson (Sr) – 2:39.53 PR
* Erika Holley (Soph) – 2:40.48 PR

* Scarlett Verdino-Jenkins (Fr) – 2:47.64 PR
* Emma Carroll (Soph) – 2:48.12

What a day at the Glover Smiley Track Classic! The Clover Blue Eagles delivered record-breaking performances on Saturday, March 28th.

Ella Nighbor was an absolute warrior, running three events while feeling under the weather. In her first-ever 2K steeplechase she dominated in 6:58, setting a new Clover school record, meet record, and state record while winning by nearly a full minute. She now ranks among the top in the nation. Hours later she set another meet record in the 1600m with a blazing 4:58. Then she anchored the girls Distance Medley Relay with a strong 5:03 split to help smash the Clover school record!

Other standouts: Ava Jagielski ran her 4th-fastest 1600m and looks even stronger than last season. Chase Hensley PR’d in the 1600m with a 4:34 for 7th. Wade Ward set a new Clover school record in his steeplechase debut, running 6:55 for 6th place.

Relay highlights: The girls 4x800 took 2nd in 10:17 with Ava Jagielski setting a strong early tempo, Nadia Andrews, Maddie Wilson and Makenna Young anchoring with a big PR split of 2:30.

The girls Distance Medley Relay won in dominant fashion, smashing their school record with a 12:42. Splits: Ava Jagielski 3:52 (1200), Nadia Andrews 1:10 (400), Makenna Young 2:34 (800), Ella Nighbor 5:03 (1600 anchor).

The boys Distance Medley Relay fought for 3rd and broke the long-standing school record with an 11:06. Splits: Aidan Barkaway 3:22 (1200), Wade Ward 55 (400), Cody Waid 2:07 (800), Chase Hensley 4:40 (1600 anchor).
